Job description

Our office is currently seeking a full-time Structural Engineer Practice Leader to support our structural team in Kansas City, MO. The ideal candidate will have experience in building structural design projects and performing complex planning, analysis, design, and construction administration for all structural aspects of building projects. We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills who enjoys being part of a team performing office and fieldwork.
Regular job duties include design and detailing building type structures, including reinforced concrete, pre-stressed concrete, steel, light gauge steel, wood, earth retaining systems, and light industrial structures. The candidate must perform complex engineering tasks accurately, extract engineering information from CAD and REVIT drawings, and complete a variety of assignments such as developing drawings, specifications, and other materials suitable for procurement and construction purposes.
In addition to the design and inspection tasks listed, the candidate will be expected to lead the structural design of small to medium-sized projects and entry-level mentor staff to design and produce construction drawings. Communication is key for this position. The candidate will need to communicate effectively to direct entry-level staff and provide reports and updates to senior-level staff and clients. The candidate will need to work in a team environment with engineers from a multitude of disciplines.

Required Skills:
  • Effective communication skills - both verbal and written.
  • Understanding engineering principles is required to lead and perform engineering designs and collaborate with structural engineers and CADD/REVIT technicians to develop plans, specifications, and estimates to design buildings and other structures.

Required Experience:
  • Minimum 10 plus years of experience in structural design experience.
  • Bachelors degree in civil/structural engineering. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer licensed in at least one State with the ability to obtain licenses in other states within 6 months is preferred.
  • Experience in plan development, analysis and design calculations, quality control of building structures, and familiarity with IBC, AISC, ACI, AISI, NDS, and state-specific codes.
  • Experience in using software like Mathcad, RISA, Enercalc, ETABS, SAP2000, and other related engineering software to design structural elements of buildings.
  • Seismic design experience is preferred.
  • Experience with design-build and alternative delivery methods is preferred.
  • Ability to travel for business (if required).

Salary Range: $140,000 - $175,000 + depending on experience and qualifications
