The University of Miami Health System ("UHealth") IT Department has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Manager, Security Operations Center (SOC) to work onsite in Miami, Florida.
The Manager, Security Operations Center (SOC) analyzes and directs the activities of the security operations team and supervisesall assigned security operations staff. The incumbent in this position directs internal teams in the execution of initiatives as they relate to threat analysis, monitoring, systems and applications, responding to all related cybersecurity alerts, and supporting strategic IT initiatives.
Core Responsibilities:
Designs improved work systems by revising work standards, policies, and procedures, employee work method and utilization, and staffing levels.
Plays an integral role in the hire, training, counseling, and development of staff.
Develops and maintains a professional development and training plan for staff.
Confers with and advises subordinates of technical problems and solutions, task prioritization, and support methodology.
Serves as a point of contact for the security operations management team on day-to-day IT security operations center initiatives.
Ensures a consistently high level of customer service throughout the department by creating appropriateservice standards, regular observation, and mentoring department personnel.
Develops, documents, and modifies guidelines and procedures to promote efficiency within the unit.
Supervises the performance of unit supervisors and staff.
Administers and processes staff performance appraisals.
Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit andcompliance with University policies and procedures.
Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.
Ensure the IT security operations processes adhere to established and documented security operations processes in support of the University mission.
Department Specific Functions:
The Manager, Security Operations Center (SOC) leads the daily operations of the Enterprise Security Operations team and helps shape how the University detects, responds to, and learns from cyber threats. This leader will oversee a 24x7x365 shift-based security environment, strengthen incident response discipline, improve monitoring practices, and ensure the team has the clarity, tools, and support needed to perform at a high level.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative security operations leader who combines technical judgment, calm decision-making, and a strong commitment to developing people. We are looking for someone who can lead through pressure, build trust across teams, and continuously improve how the SOC operates.
Lead 24x7x365 SOC Operations: Manage daily operations, shift coverage, staffing plans, handoffs, and operational workflows to ensure reliable monitoring and response across all hours.
Drive Incident Response Excellence: Serve as an escalation leader for cybersecurity incidents, guide triage and containment decisions, coordinate with technical and business partners, and promote clear communication during high-priority events.
Optimize Security Platforms and Partnerships: Oversee use of core security monitoring and response platforms, partner with technology owners, and serve as a key point of contact for managed detection and response providers and other external security partners.
Develop and Retain Talent: Recruit, coach, mentor, and develop SOC team members. Create practical training routines, career development pathways, and feedback practices that help analysts grow and succeed.
Improve Outcomes and Operational Maturity: Use metrics, lessons learned, and stakeholder feedback to improve incident response processes, playbooks, SLAs, procedures, and day-to-day SOC performance

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.
Preferred Certifications, including but not limited to:
Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
CompTIA Security+ / Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)
Relevant Cloud Security Certifications (AWS, Azure, etc.)
Security Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in cybersecurity, security operations, incident response, infrastructure security, or a closely related field.
Leadership Experience: Minimum 3 years of supervisory or team leadership experience, including experience leading shift-based teams, on-call operations, or a 24x7x365 Security Operations Center environment.
Strong understanding of security monitoring, incident triage, threat detection, and response workflows.
Ability to lead, prioritize, delegate, and support a rotation-based team in a fast-moving environment.
Excellent organizational and communication skills, including the ability to coordinate across technical teams, business stakeholders, and external partners.
Commitment to service, accountability, documentation, and continuous improvement in a mission-driven environment
Operational Management: Optimizes day-to-day operations and processes for efficiency and effectiveness.
Organizational Development: Ability to implement sound processes to improve organizational effectiveness, engagement, and manage change.
Team Leadership: Ability to create and maintain a cohesive and productive team environment, build positive working relationships and work collaboratively with others.
Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey ideas clearly and persuasively.
