Watts & Associates is working discreetly with a highly regarded Am Law 200 ranked national law firm seeking a Senior Associate or Counsel Investment Funds Attorney to join its Houston Texas office on an in office basis.


This is a transactional role focused on private funds formation and sponsor and investor side advisory work across a range of alternative investment strategies. The position offers sophisticated drafting and negotiation work, day to day client contact, and exposure to complex regulatory and structuring issues.


The team sits within a well established corporate platform with a collaborative, partner led approach and a strong market presence in Texas. Attorneys are encouraged to take ownership of matters while working closely with colleagues across complementary corporate and regulatory practices.


The Opportunity


Represent sponsors in fund formation matters, including structuring, fundraising, investor negotiations, governance, and ongoing operational issues. Advise limited partners, including institutional and sovereign investors, on investments in private equity and other private investment vehicles. The practice also involves meaningful Investment Company Act of 1940 Act analysis, with additional exposure to 1940 Act fund work for candidates who have that background.


Ideal Candidate Profile


The firm is seeking a Senior Associate or Counsel Investment Funds Attorney with:


  • More than 6 years of substantive experience in private funds formation and sponsor and investor side investment matters
  • Experience across alternative investment strategies such as private equity, credit, energy, infrastructure, real estate, hedge funds, and bespoke investment structures
  • Working knowledge of Investment Company Act of 1940 Act issues, with 1940 Act fund experience welcomed
  • Admission to the Texas Bar
  • Ability to work in the Houston office five days per week
