POSITION OVERVIEW:

Join Back to Nature Home and Garden as Masonry Crew Member in the Construction department. The Construction Masonry Crew Member is responsible for constructing and repairing masonry and concrete features, including retaining walls, patios, walkways, pools, and other hardscape elements.

The Mason works closely with the Foreman and Project Manager to deliver high-quality, durable, and visually exceptional structures while maintaining safety and efficiency on job sites.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Builds retaining walls, pools, walkways, patios, and other structures using bricks, stone, and/or concrete blocks.
  • Cuts, shape, and prepare masonry materials as needed.
  • Mix and apply mortar, grout, and concrete according to specifications.
  • Monitor curing and drying conditions, adjusting for weather and site conditions.
  • Read and follow Construction plans and project specifications.
  • Set and align materials to ensure accuracy and structural integrity.
  • Consults with the project manager/foreman or client to determine the shape, consistency, finish, and other specifications of the project and plans accordingly.
  • Builds and uses forms to shape concrete to specified levels and consistencies.
  • Uses a variety of tools, such as straight-edges, floats, rakes, shovels, trowels, and brooms, to spread, level, smooth, and finish concrete and surface.
  • Waterproofs or restores surface by applying hardening and sealing compounds.
  • Levels and evens surface as needed by chipping, scraping, and grinding uneven spots or ridges using power or hand tools.
  • Repairs and reinforces existing concrete surfaces, which may include removing ridges and cavities, resurfacing, or cleaning.
  • Cleans surface, tools, and surrounding area thoroughly.
  • Follow all safety procedures and company policies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of three (3) years of masonry or related construction experience
  • Extensive knowledge of bricklaying, stonework, and concrete techniques
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
  • Strong understanding of basic math and geometry
  • Ability to build, install, and use concrete forms
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to create, lay, and use concrete forms
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Ability to reliably commute to and from the office on a daily basis
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Reliable transportation to and from the office
  • Prolonged periods standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and squatting
  • Willingness to work in all seasonal and environmental conditions
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination
