How much do seasonal deicing jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 30, 2026, the average yearly pay for seasonal deicing in the United States is $82,454.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $66,000.00 and $102,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Is deicing a seasonal job?

Yes, deicing jobs are typically seasonal, primarily occurring during winter months when snow and ice conditions require removal. Workers often operate equipment like salt spreaders and plows, and the job may require working in cold weather and on short notice during storms.

What is the difference between Seasonal Deicing vs Snow Plow Operator?

AspectSeasonal DeicingSnow Plow Operator
CredentialsTypically requires safety training, sometimes CDL for large equipmentRequires CDL license, safety training, and equipment operation certification
Work EnvironmentOutdoor, cold weather, often during winter monthsOutdoor, winter weather, operating snow removal equipment
Industry UsageUsed across transportation, airports, and municipal services for ice controlPrimarily in transportation, municipal, and commercial snow removal

Seasonal Deicing involves applying chemicals or materials to prevent or melt ice, focusing on chemical application and surface treatment. Snow Plow Operators operate heavy machinery to physically remove snow from roads and surfaces. While both roles are essential for winter safety, deicing is chemical-based and preventive, whereas snow plowing is mechanical and removal-focused.

How much do deicing operators make?

Deicing operators typically earn between $15 and $25 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer. Seasonal positions often pay hourly wages and may include overtime during peak winter months.

What is the 3 month rule for jobs?

The 3 month rule in seasonal deicing jobs typically refers to the probation or trial period that lasts for the first three months of employment, during which performance is evaluated before offering permanent employment or benefits. This period allows employers to assess skills, reliability, and fit for the physically demanding and weather-dependent role. Workers may need to demonstrate availability during winter months and sometimes complete safety or equipment training during this time.

What jobs make $3,000 a day?

High-paying jobs related to seasonal deicing, such as specialized equipment operators or contract managers, can sometimes earn around $3,000 a day, especially during peak winter seasons or in emergency response roles. These positions often require extensive experience, certifications, and working in challenging weather conditions. Most standard deicing jobs pay hourly or by the project and do not typically reach this daily rate without additional responsibilities or overtime.
