Job description

The role of Construction Mechanic is that of a diversely skilled laborer.  The successful candidate would have experience with concrete and masonry work, landscaping, fence repair, asphalt repair, work with catch basins and manholes, use of construction equipment, and deicing and snow removal. Additionally, trained Construction Mechanics operate EB’s water treatment plant and central waste facility.

  • Concrete and masonry work includes minor to moderate repairs.
  • Landscaping work consists primarily of brush and weed clearing.
  • Current construction and snow removal equipment including tractors, skid steers, gravely push brooms, snow blowers and sweepers.
  • Asphalt and catch basin work includes primarily cold patch of potholes, curb repairs and basin cleaning and repair.
  • Opportunities may be available to receive training to operate our bilge plant and central waste facility. Previous experience in either of these areas is a plus.
  • This position is responsible for performing snow removal and deicing operations.
  • Other facility related assignments may be required to be performed. 

Required:

  • High school diploma, equivalent or 2+ years of technical experience
  • 5+ years of construction, facilities and/or maintenance experience 
  • Working daily and weekend overtime as requested in support of snow removal and deicing operations

Preferred:

  • Central Waste Facility experience 
  • Water Treatment Plant Operations experience
  • Sweeper experience 
  • Gravely plow and broom operations experience
  • Whacker Neuson tractor experience 
  • Kubota operating license

  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Strong communication skills 
  • Strong cooperation skills and being a team player
  • Strong safety performance track record 
  • Experience operating construction and snow removal equipment 
  • Experience with at least 4 of the 6 skills identified above
  • Being a self-starter and capable of working alone with minimal supervision 
  • Working in hot and cold environments
