Job description

We are currently looking for an outstanding QA/QC Supervisor/Lead to join our growing team! Reporting to this role will be the QC Technicians and Line Leads (indirectly for Food Safety/Food Quality). This position would be roughly 66% (2/3) of time actively being present in production areas/dock/warehouse and approximately 33% (1/3) desk/computer work.
We are looking for "go-getter" attitude, able take action and physically implement QC procedures, rules, corrective actions etc. You must be fully capable of doing desk work/ "brain work" but have the personality and the work ethic to be in the production rooms "on the floor", physically overseeing the job performance of their QC technicians under them. You will be on your feet for a good part of the day when necessary.
Shift: 2nd/3rd shift
Responsibilities
  • Collect all QC Tech and line lead paperwork (ensure that necessary paperwork gets turned in daily and is complete), sign off when needed, when QA Supervisor not available.
  • Implementation/execution of Corrective Action Reports "CAR's" on the line
  • Implementation of Product Specifications (specs, flow charts, batching) via QC techs and line leads
  • Cover for absent QC Techs as needed- fill in for coverage as needed.
  • Train QC technicians when they are hired for any given QC technician position.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Implementing and Enforcing SOP's, Corrective Actions, product specifications, and other Technical/Quality Control Department decisions
  • Implementing and enforcing Corrective Action Reports
  • Conducting Plant Inspections and Internal Audits (daily, weekly, monthly)
  • Conducting Pre-op and Raw Material Inspections as needed.
  • Supervising QC Line technicians in terms of scheduling, line coverage, minimizing over time, vacation time, performance reviews, disciplinary action when necessary, along with input from the QA Supervisor.
  • Being the physical replacement (filling in) for QC Technicians when they are absent and no other appropriately trained QC technician is available. This entails that this person becomes familiar enough with each QC technician's duties that they can perform them.
  • Being the trainer of new QC technicians when they are hired for any given QC technician position.
  • Collecting QC paperwork, ensuring that all QC documents get completed and turned in each day
  • Communicating with QA Supervisor and Technical Manager when issues arrive and working together to resolve.
  • Training Personnel on GMP's and enforcing these GMP's, conducting GMP training sessions with staff.
  • Aid QA Supervisor and Technical Manager in overseeing/reviewing pre-operations inspections and Environmental Monitoring Program.
  • Advisor to QC/Production Technicians on quality deviations/issues
  • Conducting Mock Recalls with QC Staff (product traceability exercises)
  • Performing Thermometer Calibrations (conducting calibration and documenting records of calibration)
  • Scheduling of QC Technicians for providing line coverage and minimizing over time, (work out with Production Coordinator)
  • Performing other tasks/projects as assigned by the QA Supervisor
  • Aid in writing and revising product specifications
  • Aid in writing and revising SOP's and Process Flow Charts, and training associates in SOP's and completing training records
  • Aid in writing and revising SSOP's
  • Maintaining SSOP folder for all equipment, dilution logs, chemical use instructions
  • Aid eQA/Technical Manager in writing and revising QC/QA forms

  • At least one year of experience with HACCP and HACCP implementation in a Food Processing Plant
  • At least one year of experience with GMP and SOP implementation in a Food Processing Plant
  • Prior experience in a Food Processing Plant environment
  • Prior experience in Environmental Swabbing- sponge sampling, ATP swabbing, surface swabbing
  • Previous QC experience and supervisory experience required - experience specifically in the food industry is a big plus
  • Must have moderate to strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Must be able to successfully communicate with and direct people
  • Must be capable of technical/scientific writing and researching of scientific/technical topics, be it through internet or text (periodicals, books)
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment, able to quickly adjust and critically think under all circumstances
