Scrum is a framework utilized by companies to encourage a development team to work together efficiently. As a scrum master, your primary responsibilities are to promote and support the Scrum process. You manage the team and ensure everyone understands Scrum theory, rules, and practices. Your duties include evaluating individuals, finding effective techniques, recommending changes to maximize value, coaching participants on cross-functionality and self-organization, and facilitating Scrum events. A part-time scrum master does not work a full 40-hour schedule and may provide scrum master services to multiple teams at the same time.
| Aspect | Scrum Master Part Time | Scrum Master Full Time |
|---|---|---|
| Work Hours | Fewer hours, typically less than 20 hours/week | Full-time, usually 40 hours/week |
| Certifications | Commonly required (CSM, PSM) | Same certifications required |
| Work Environment | Part-time roles often in consulting or multiple projects | Dedicated team environment within a single organization |
| Responsibilities | Focus on specific sprints or projects | Oversee multiple projects and team coaching |
Scrum Master Part Time roles typically involve fewer hours and focus on specific projects, making them suitable for consultants or professionals balancing multiple commitments. Scrum Master Full Time positions require a dedicated focus on team coaching and project management within a single organization. Both roles often require similar certifications and skills, but differ mainly in time commitment and scope.
