Description

The Maintenance Technician troubleshoots and repairs mechanical & electrical issues including PLC problems on manufacturing and facilities equipment; performs and develops preventative (PM) & Predictive (PdM) maintenance procedures; implements Continuous Improvement Actions throughout the facility; leads other Technicians and contractors in machine setup, troubleshooting and repairs; and trains operators on basic maintenance skills to develop a true Autonomous Maintenance system.


  • Understand priority for safety issues that arises in the facility
  • Ability to read and act on instructions from MSDS/SDS; Confined Space, LO/TO, and Arc Flash Procedures
  • Perform installation, corrective maintenance or preventive/predictive maintenance on production equipment such as melting furnace, oxidizers, mixers, continuous belt furnaces, blenders, packers, blowers, screeners, bucket elevators, electric motors, dust collectors, high velocity air and water equipment.

The following technical skills are required for the position:

  1. Troubleshoot pneumatic, hydraulic & power transmissions systems
  2. Welding processes (MIG/TIG)
  3. Reading electrical schematics and hardwiring to prints,
  4. Troubleshooting electrical systems via electrical test equipment (multi-meters, amp probes, data recorders, etc.)
  5. Planning and installing a variety of electrical equipment such as control panels, junction boxes, switches, etc.
  6. Troubleshoot 120Vac single-phase to 480Vac three-phase electrical systems, along with DC motors and controls systems from 24Vdc to 120Vac
  7. Troubleshoot & repair Variable Frequency Drives (VFD)
  8. Interface PCs to PLC controllers for troubleshooting equipment (Siemens and A/B PLCs)
  9. Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC License is preferred)
  10. Have familiarity with facility system such as Cooling Tower, HVAC Units, Air Compressors (up to 150hp), Power Distribution Systems (from secondary side of utility transformer to equipment), Motor control centers (MCC), Fire Suppression and Sprinkler Systems.
  11. Operating machine tools (mills, lathes, breaks)
  • Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for work order tracking and closure
  • Provide feedback to the engineering functions concerning areas that need of improvement and ideas for implementation
  • Apply practical problem-solving techniques to help correct complex issues
  • Train operators to perform autonomous maintenance tasks
  • Responsive and dedicated to meeting production needs and requirements
  • Escalate complex situations to Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Manager
  • Continuously improve the level of housekeeping and implement 5S throughout the facility
  • Monitor machine spares for equipment and flag up shortages, obsolescence, and inventory requirements
  • Learn and Implement advanced PdM techniques (thermographic imaging, ultrasonic, vibration analysis, oil analysis)
  • Must be willing to work altered shift schedules/overtime as needed to support the business
  • Daily and weekend overtime may be required to complete duties of the position
  • Perform any other duties as specified by Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Manager


Requirements

Associate's degree in industrial systems, Mechatronics, or equivalent field with minimum of three years' experience in manufacturing; or High School Diploma or GED with minimum of seven years' experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365 preferred.
  • Must be highly safety conscious
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and/or service
