Science Lab Facilitator:   
Assists the science department with the safe and efficient operation of Grayson College's science laboratories. Position may be required to work a non-traditional schedule and perform in a variety of settings and formats, to include weekends and evenings as needed 
 
The salary range is $44,281.34-$66,422.02 based on applicable years of experience.

  • Tuition-FT employees, their spouse & dependents are eligible for coverage of full Grayson College tuition amount.  
 Essential Functions & Responsibilities: 
  • 60%    Assists with aspects of the operation of science department laboratories, including setup of laboratories for each week's activities. Cleans and organizes the laboratories, stockrooms and prep rooms. Operates and cares for lab equipment and instruments. Ensures proper disposal of bio-hazardous and chemical waste. Serves as the science laboratory safety officer, coordinates HAZMAT disposal for the science labs, and assists with EPA for Biology/Physical Science. 
  • 15%   Coordinates the location, setup and take down of lab practicals. 
  • 15%   Maintains departmental inventories and assists with preparation of departmental budgets as it pertains to lab preparation. Coordinates with administrative assistant to order supplies.  
  • 5%  Tutors all levels of biological science topics at Grayson College. 
  • 5%   Other duties as assigned.

  4. Ensures that department deadlines are met to enable staff and students to use the laboratory as required.
  5. Maintains knowledge on laboratory safety procedures.
  6. Understands the responsibilities of being role models to students on the campus.
  7. Maintains a professional work environment and businesslike appearance.

Knowledge and Skills: 
  • Experience:  | Six months to two years of experience in a laboratory setting. 
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in biology and/or chemistry from an accredited college or university. 
  • Interpersonal Skills:  Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the college for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.
  • Other Skills: Good mathmatical, written and oral skills. Knowledge of basic laboratory principles and practices. Willingness to stay current in science safety rules and regulations as well as teaching methodologies and introduce pedagogical innovations as needed for effective instruction.
  • Physical Requirements:   | The work requires minor physical exertion such as short periods of standing, walking over rough uneven surfaces, some recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Job may require recurring lifting of lightweight objects with infrequent bending or stooping alternating with the lighter activities.   • Work Environment: Regular exposure to unfavorable environments such as weather, body fluids, toxic laboratory & industrial chemicals, or confined, dirty and noisy locations. Employees may be required to use personal protective equipment such as masks, coats, gowns, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.
