- The role involves supporting laboratory operations by handling specimen processing, basic lab preparation tasks, quality checks, and maintaining a safe and compliant lab environment in accordance with safety and procedural standards.
Requirement/Must Have:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain workflow efficiency.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures accurately.
- Ability to work in a laboratory environment following safety and PPE requirements.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
Experience:
- No prior work experience required.
- Medical assistant training or science coursework preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Sort and receive specimens in the laboratory department.
- Perform routine instrument maintenance on selected equipment.
- Centrifuge specimens and print labels as required.
- Record data such as temperature charts and maintain specimen tracking.
- Prepare reagents and media for laboratory use.
- Prepare specimens for testing including aliquoting, clot/fibrin checks, and slide preparation.
- Build worklists and organize samples for testing workflows.
- Perform QA/QC duties as assigned.
- Resolve pending lists and locate missing samples.
- Decontaminate work areas and maintain lab cleanliness.
- Perform weekly radioactive wipe tests.
- Maintain department files and records.
- Change gas cylinders as required.
- Dispose of biohazardous materials following safety protocols.
- Use laboratory computer systems and PCs for documentation and tracking.
- Complete training and competency assessments as required.
Should Have:
- Basic understanding of laboratory procedures preferred.
- Math and science coursework is an advantage.
- Ability to retain instructions and follow established protocols.
