About the role

Mater Hospital Springfield has an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join the Planned care team in a permanent full-time or part-time role (hours negotiable) working as an elective surgery theatre/procedural scheduler.

The Planned Care team offers exceptional individualised care and is committed to enhancing the patient experience by providing education, information and support that is evidence based.

This role will work closely with the treating teams to ensure patients referred for elective procedures are scheduled within clinically appropriate timeframes whilst ensuring patients are optimally prepared for surgery prior to their theatre date.

Salary range: $42.99 - $55.14 per hour plus superannuation andaccess to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900+access to many staff benefits!

What you'll be doing

As a Registered Nurse - Theatre Scheduler, you will play a vital role in coordinating elective surgical procedures while delivering high-quality, patient-centred nursing care. You will advocate for patients and ensure their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs are met in a safe and efficient environment, contributing to optimal surgical outcomes.

  • Scheduling patients for elective surgery procedures within clinically recommended timeframes
  • Utilisation of Elective surgery implementation standard
  • Liaising with the multidisciplinary teams to ensure patients are optimised pre-operatively
  • Delivery of safe, quality nursing care under both direct and indirect supervision of nursing, and medical teams
  • Identifying, escalating, and managing clinical risks effectively
  • Participating in ongoing professional development and team meetings
  • Collaborating with healthcare professionals to deliver coordinated and effective care
  • Contributing to service planning, evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives

About you

  • Current AHPRA registration as an Registered Nurse (without restrictions)
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a surgical nursing environment
  • Previous experience in surgical scheduling (highly desirable)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise professionally with patients, families, and staff
  • Excellent time management and organisational abilities
  • Proficiency in electronic systems such as patient information systems, procedural booking tools, Microsoft Outlook, and Excel
  • Knowledge of, or the ability to acquire knowledge of, Elective Surgery Waitlist governance and business rules
