Job description

CT Scan Tech

Purpose of Position: Performs CT procedures as requested by providers in a manner consistent with prescribed radiation protection safety standards.

Description:

1. Performs CT scanning procedures at a technical level requiring constant attention to technical detail, requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiologic diagnosis. · Operates control console for patient's scan · Selects proper imaging techniques and protocols · Operates various peripheral hardware and equipment

2. Maintain, set-up and adjust equipment, checking calibration and recalibrating daily.

3. Positions patient on examination table and adjusts immobilization devices as required to obtain optimum views of specified area of the body requested by physician as determined by department policy and procedure observing all health and safety precautions, quality assurance and infection control standards.

4. Receive requests for radiologic studies. Provide explanation of procedures and answer pertinent questions of patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation. · Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of patients during examinations and procedures to ensure safety and comfort while preparing for and while undergoing computerized tomography procedures. · Assist physician and/or nurse with monitoring and treatment of patients during procedures. · Record all required information to provide permanent records of significant and/or functional anatomical or pathologic data obtained.

5. Immediately reviews CT imaging and cross-sectional anatomy and relays any emergent findings to Radiologist.

6. Begins IVs on patients for contrast enhanced CT exams and gives/instructs patient/RN on any oral contrast guidelines.

7. Apply principles of radiographic protection using beam restriction devices, patient shielding skills, and knowledge of applicable exposure factors, to minimize radiation to patients and staff.

8. Applies ionizing radiation to patients according to established practices and procedures.

9. Coordinate work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency using and/or modifying established procedures, to assure timely completion of work in conformance with department policies and procedures. · Evaluates images for technical quality · Maintains proficiency in EMR and PACS system · Maintain adequate radiology records to assure proper identification · Assist physician with administration of radiographic contrast media or its direct administration if trained and sanctioned by the Radiologist

10. Maintain a thorough knowledge of departmental and Hospital policies and Procedures as they pertain to the job, including the fire and disaster plans. Comply with Infection Control policies and procedures.

11. Participates in activities which promote professional self-growth and development; meeting minimum requirements for continuing education as directed by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and Massachusetts State Licensing.

12. Maintain an ethical relationship with patients, physicians, personnel and guests and insures patient confidentiality at all times.

13. Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and coworkers.

14. Performs other work related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications:

CT Technologist – Grade: 16R, Job Code: 7554 · Ability to read, write and communicate in English · Graduate an accredited program in Radiologic Technology · Valid Massachusetts State License from Massachusetts Radiation Control Board in Radiography and CT · Must meet one of the following qualifications: o (ARRT) – Current registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in CT o (NMTBC) Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board in Cat Scan (CT) · (BLS) - Basic Life Support certification.

Schedule Details: 40 Hours Per Week, Rotating Nights, 9p–7a, Every Other Weekend and Rotating Holidays
