Cat Scan Technician
At RWJBarnabas Health, the Cat Scan Technician plays a critical role in patient care and diagnostics. Operating under the supervision of a board-certified radiologist, they work with a high level of independence. They are responsible for preparing patients, administering contrast dye, ensuring radiation safety, and delivering high-quality diagnostic images.
A typical day for a Cat Scan Technician may include:
- Analyzes patient physical condition, age and suspected pathology for proper technique
- Assists Radiologist in performing certain radiographic procedures
- Correctly marks images with time and body position
- Ensures patient comfort, physical and mental well being during the examination
- Ensures that room is properly stocked with all needed supplies prior to the beginning of the procedure
- Explains procedures, keeps patient informed of progress and assists patients in transferring on to/off examination table for procedures
- Observes equipment for proper functioning and reports malfunctions to supervisor
- Properly prepares room before patient enters and cleans it after patient exits
- Properly uses the Radiology Information System to arrive, change if necessary and complete cases
- Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patients age specific needs and provide age specific treatment and care

- Available for full-time Night Shift schedule, working 4x10 hour shifts from 10P-8A
