Job Description:
Job Summary:
Responsible for the safe and efficient operation, monitoring, and maintenance of concrete batch plant operations. Supports ready-mix and aggregate production and sales through operation of plant controls and mobile equipment, coordination of material usage, ordering raw materials, assisting with dispatch and trucking logistics, ensuring product quality and regulatory compliance, and performing related duties as assigned, including driving ready-mix trucks when required.
Main Responsibilities:
• Embrace the Company's safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Simon Steering and Continuous Improvement teams.
• Support, promote, and practice the Company core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies.
• Operate concrete batch plant systems to produce ready-mix concrete in accordance with customer specifications, quality standards, and production schedules.
• Monitor material usage, inventory levels, and production output to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and consistency.
• Review production costs and product quality and modify production or inventory control programs as necessary to maintain and enhance profitable operations.
• Order required raw materials (including cement, fly ash, aggregates, propane, and fuel) in advance based on construction schedules provided by the construction superintendent and/or project manager.
• Ensure accurate quantities are batched, recorded, and coded to the correct job and phase codes.
• Maintain yard logs and assist the area manager with plant logs and associated documentation.
• Ensure the plant is operating properly and in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
• Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs on plant equipment, including compressors, motors, belts, lubrication systems, and corrosion control.
• Perform loader and scale operations associated with aggregate material handling and sales.
• Safely operate aggregate and ready-mix trucks when needed, based on qualifications and operational needs.
• Assist with dispatching and coordinating the trucking fleet, including communication with internal drivers and outside haulers.
• Coordinate with construction superintendents, project managers, and outside trucking vendors, and collect outside truck timecards as required.
• Assist in supervising and providing direction to employees involved in plant, quarry, trucking, and scale operations.
• Operate other equipment and perform additional duties as assigned to support aggregate and ready-mix production and sales.
Education:
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
• Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the ability to maintain a clean driving record required.
• ACI Certification preferred or the ability to obtain certification within a reasonable timeframe.
Skills:
• 5+ years of related experience and/or training in concrete batch plant operations preferred.
• Strong knowledge of concrete production processes, materials, and quality control standards.
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance manuals, and procedural documents.
• Working knowledge of computers, including experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Effective communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Physical Requirements:
• Wears and maintains required PPE (personal protective equipment) to ensure safe performance of job responsibilities as required.
• Regularly uses hands to handle tools, equipment, and materials necessary for completing operational tasks safely and efficiently.
• Regularly communicate (talk and hear) to support safe coordination, instruction, and teamwork in the work environment.
• Regularly stands for extended periods and moves across various surfaces or terrain to access different work areas and complete assigned tasks.
• Regularly works in changing environmental conditions (such as outdoor weather, dust, or airborne particles) due to the nature of operational work sites.
• Regularly works near fuels, oils, and other common workplace chemicals associated with operating or supporting equipment and machinery.
• Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds with or without assistance to handle materials, tools, equipment, or documents essential to the role.
• Frequently stands, walks, sits, reaches, and stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls to access work areas and complete required tasks.
• Frequently works in environments that may include loud noise, moving equipment, dust, or varying indoor/outdoor conditions depending on operational needs.
• Occasionally works at heights or near electrical hazards when tasks require elevated access or proximity to electrical components.
• Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and overtime; overnight travel may be required.
