What is an SAP tester?

SAP Testers are professionals who specialize in testing SAP software applications to ensure they function as intended and meet business requirements. They design and execute test cases, identify bugs, and work closely with developers and business analysts to resolve issues. SAP Testers often use automated and manual testing techniques to validate modules like SAP ERP, SAP S/4HANA, or SAP CRM. Their work is critical in ensuring the reliability and quality of SAP systems before deployment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an SAP tester, and why are they important?

To thrive as an SAP Tester, you need a solid understanding of SAP modules, functional testing, and quality assurance principles, often backed by a degree in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with SAP testing tools like SAP TAO, HP ALM, and automation frameworks, as well as ISTQB certification, is highly valuable. Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and strong communication skills help SAP Testers identify defects and collaborate effectively with developers and business users. These skills ensure reliable SAP system performance, minimize business disruptions, and support smooth project delivery.

What are some of the common challenges faced by SAP testers when working on large-scale SAP implementations?

SAP Testers often encounter challenges such as managing complex integrations between different SAP modules and third-party systems, ensuring data consistency, and adapting to frequent changes in business requirements. Coordinating with multiple stakeholders, including functional consultants, developers, and end-users, can also be demanding, especially in large projects with tight deadlines. Success in this role often requires strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and effective communication to ensure thorough test coverage and the timely resolution of issues.

As the SAP Automation Lead, you will play a pivotal role in guiding the automation and quality assurance efforts for a major SAP ECC to S/4HANA migration and implementation program for a large Department of Defense client. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the design, development, and deployment of both attended and unattended automation solutions using UiPath, while ensuring seamless integration with UiPath Orchestrator. You will be expected to build and maintain a comprehensive process repository, manage work prioritization, and allocate team capacity to meet strict project timelines. Your leadership will be essential in coordinating test automation activities, driving the development of robust test scripts, and ensuring the successful execution of, integration, and regression testing phases.

Exposure to a variety of automation and testing tools will be highly beneficial in this role. While UiPath is the primary platform, familiarity with alternative automation solutions such as WorkSoft Certify, Tricentis TOSCA, or Automation Anywhere will enable you to adapt to evolving project needs. Experience with SAP S/4HANA deployment, particularly in environments aligned with Department of Defense or Federal Civilian agency requirements, will be crucial. A strong understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), especially as it pertains to SAP ECC/S4 end-to-end process testing, will help you ensure quality and compliance throughout the migration process. Active Secret Clearance (T3 Investigation) is required, as you will be working with sensitive client data and systems

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead design, development, and deployment of UiPath attended and unattended automation solutions
  • Oversee integration with UiPath Orchestrator and maintain automation reliability
  • Build and maintain a comprehensive automation process repository
  • Manage work prioritization, capacity planning, and timeline adherence
  • Lead test automation development and execution across system, integration, and regression testing cycles
  • Provide leadership across automation and QA teams
  • Support SAP ECC/S4 end‑to‑end testing aligned to DoD/Federal requirements
  • Integrate or evaluate alternative automation platforms (WorkSoft Certify, Tricentis TOSCA, Automation Anywhere)
  • Drive continuous improvement in automation capability and QA effectiveness
  • Collaborate closely across functional, technical, and testing teams

Here's what you need:

  • 7+ years of SAP Test Automation experience
  • Experience with attended and unattended automation
  • SAP S/4HANA deployment experience
  • Test script development experience
  • Familiarity with SDLC and SAP system/integration/regression testing
  • Experience with tools like WorkSoft Certify, Tricentis TOSCA, or Automation Anywhere

Bonus if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • UiPath expertise, including UiPath Orchestrator
  • Experience in SAP ECC to S/4HANA migration/implementation programs
  • Proficiency in multiple automation platforms beyond UiPath

Eligibility requirements:

  • Active Secret Clearance
  • U.S. Citizenship required
