Sanitation Supervisor - Cold Storage Blueberry Packing Warehouse
Position Title: Sanitation Supervisor
Department: Operations / Food Safety
Location: Cold Storage Warehouse (34°F Environment)
Reports To: Operations Manager / Plant Manager
Position Summary
The Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all sanitation activities within a refrigerated blueberry packing and distribution facility. This role ensures that all packing lines, equipment, storage areas, and common spaces are cleaned and sanitized according to food safety standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements. The Sanitation Supervisor will lead sanitation staff, conduct inspections, maintain sanitation records, and support food safety initiatives in a fast-paced cold environment maintained at approximately 34°F.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate daily sanitation activities for the blueberry packing facility.
  • Train, coach, and evaluate sanitation team members on proper cleaning and safety procedures.
  • Ensure all packing equipment, conveyors, sorting machines, and warehouse areas are properly cleaned and sanitized.
  • Verify compliance with GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), HACCP, and food safety regulations.
  • Conduct pre-operational inspections to ensure equipment and work areas meet sanitation standards before production begins.
  • Maintain sanitation logs, cleaning schedules, chemical usage records, and inspection reports.
  • Monitor inventory of sanitation supplies, chemicals, PPE, and cleaning equipment.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and dilution of cleaning chemicals.
  • Investigate and resolve sanitation-related issues or deficiencies.
  • Work closely with Quality Assurance, Food Safety, and Operations teams to maintain compliance.
  • Ensure all sanitation employees follow company safety procedures and wear required PPE.
  • Participate in internal and external food safety audits and inspections.
  • Assist in developing and improving sanitation procedures and programs.
  • Support emergency cleaning and sanitation needs as required.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in sanitation, food production, warehouse, or manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, food safety regulations, and sanitation best practices.
  • Experience working in refrigerated or cold storage environments preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to train and motivate employees while maintaining accountability.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Creole) preferred.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in a refrigerated environment maintained at approximately 34°F.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds throughout the shift.
  • Comfortable working around moving machinery and production equipment.
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including gloves, safety glasses, and protective clothing.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
