Job Summary:We are seeking an experienced HR Generalist to support our growing operations within the civil construction and sand mining industry. This role will be responsible for delivering hands-on HR support across multiple functions including employee relations, recruitment, compliance, benefits administration, performance management, and workforce development. The ideal candidate thrives in a field-driven environment and understands the unique workforce challenges of construction and heavy industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a trusted HR partner to field and office leadership, providing daily HR guidance and support
  • Administer full-cycle recruiting for skilled trades, operators, supervisors, and professional roles
  • Coordinate onboarding, orientation, and offboarding processes to ensure a positive employee experience
  • Support employee relations matters including investigations, corrective action, and conflict resolution
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, OSHA, MSHA, EEO, etc.)
  • Assist with benefits administration, open enrollment, workers' compensation, and leave management
  • Maintain accurate employee records and HRIS data; generate reports and metrics as needed
  • Support performance management, training initiatives, and employee development programs
  • Partner with safety and operations teams to reinforce company policies and culture
  • Participate in audits, policy updates, and continuous improvement initiatives

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Industry Knowledge:
    • Understanding of the construction and/or mining industry, including common roles and skill sets.
    • Familiarity with industry-specific regulations and safety standards.
  • HR Expertise:
    • Good knowledge of HR principles, practices, and procedures.
    • Experience with talent acquisition, recruitment processes, benefits processing activities.
    • Ability to manage employee relations and conflict resolution.
    • Efficiency in benefits processing.
  • Communication Skills:
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Organizational Skills:
    • Strong organizational, accurate and time management skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously function with non-HR business requirements.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in HR software and applicant tracking systems.
    • Competence in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • 3-5 years of progressive HR Generalist experience
  • Strong working knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
  • Experience supporting hourly and field-based workforces
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail

Preferred:

  • HR experience in civil construction, sand mining, aggregates, heavy industrial, or similar industries
  • Familiarity with OSHA, MSHA and safety-sensitive environments
  • HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP)
  • Willingness to travel for out-of-town projects and other company locations to perform occasional offsite duties. Overnights may be required up to 10% of the time.
