Job description

Job Summary

The Field Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing multiple sand mining and material handling sites across Northern Colorado, ensuring safe, efficient, and productive operations. This role provides hands-on leadership for field teams while managing production planning, scheduling, material flow, and operational performance.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience in aggregate, sand, mining, or heavy materials operations and has a proven ability to lead dispersed teams, optimize material movement, and drive operational excellence across multiple locations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Multi-Site Operations Management

  • Oversee daily field operations across multiple sand mining and aggregate production sites throughout Colorado
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor operational performance, personnel, and compliance
  • Ensure consistent application of company standards, procedures, and best practices at all locations
  • Coordinate with site supervisors and crew leads to maintain production continuity and resolve operational issues

Material Handling & Processing

  • Direct and optimize material handling operations including extraction, stockpiling, loading, and transfer of sand and aggregate materials
  • Oversee rock crushing, screening, and classification processes to ensure product quality and yield targets are met
  • Manage equipment utilization and performance, including conveyors, loaders, haul trucks, crushers, and screening plants
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams to minimize equipment downtime and maximize overall plant availability

Production Planning & Scheduling

  • Develop and manage weekly, monthly, and quarterly production schedules aligned with customer demand and inventory targets
  • Coordinate with sales, logistics, and dispatch teams to prioritize orders and ensure on-time delivery commitments are met
  • Analyze production data and KPIs to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement
  • Prepare and present operational reports to senior leadership with actionable recommendations

Material Transfer & Logistics

  • Oversee inbound and outbound material transfer operations, including truck, conveyor, and rail logistics where applicable
  • Work closely with transportation and logistics partners to optimize hauling efficiency and cost-per-ton metrics
  • Manage inventory levels across all sites to prevent shortfalls and minimize excess stockpile costs
  • Coordinate material blending operations to meet customer product specifications

Safety, Compliance & Environmental Stewardship

  • Champion a strong safety culture across all sites in alignment with MSHA regulations and company safety policies
  • Conduct safety audits, incident investigations, and corrective action follow-ups at all managed locations
  • Ensure all operations comply with applicable state and federal environmental permits, reclamation plans, and water management requirements
  • Maintain accurate documentation for regulatory reporting and permit compliance

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of site supervisors, equipment operators, and support staff across multiple locations
  • Drive accountability through clear goal-setting, performance management, and regular feedback
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of field personnel
  • Foster a collaborative, solutions-oriented work environment aligned with company values

Budget & Cost Management

  • Manage operational budgets for assigned sites, tracking expenses against forecasts and identifying cost reduction opportunities
  • Evaluate capital expenditure needs and support business case development for equipment and infrastructure investments
  • Monitor consumables, fuel, and parts usage across sites to control variable costs


Qualifications

  • Minimum 5years of experience in mining, aggregate, sand, or heavy materials operations
  • Experience managing multiple sites or small to medium-scale field operations
  • Strong understanding of material handling systems and production processes
  • Proven leadership experience managing supervisors and hourly field staff
  • Working knowledge of MSHA and OSHA regulations
  • Strong planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel regularly between Colorado operating sites
  • Valid driver's license


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Construction Management, Operations Management, or related field
  • Experience with sand mining and aggregate processing operations
  • Familiarity with maintenance planning and equipment management systems
  • Experience driving continuous improvement or operational efficiency initiatives


Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Frequent work in active mining and construction environments
  • Ability to walk uneven terrain, climb stairs/ladders, and work around heavy equipment
  • Combination of field-based leadership and office-based planning
  • Regular travel between job sites within Northern Colorado

Salary:

Target compensation approximately $150,000 annually, commensurate with experience, plus competitive benefits.
