Position Summary
Engineering Manager, Samsung Wallet:
Samsung Wallet is a mobile payment service and digital wallet developed by Samsung. It is designed to be a one-stop shop for all debit cards, credit cards, digital passes and tickets, making them easy to access and use when necessary. With the rise of NFC payment terminals in stores and evolving consumer preferences over the past year, Samsung Wallet has never been more important. Working on the Samsung Wallet team will give you a chance to make a significant impact on the lives of millions of people around the world and will be invaluable to the future of payments and financial services.
Position Summary:
Samsung is seeking an experienced, hands-on engineering manager to lead the development and innovation of our Samsung Wallet mobile application. In this role, you will work from our office in New York, while collaborating closely with our decision makers based at Samsung's headquarters in South Korea, and engineering teams based in Korea and elsewhere across the globe and work on mobile app & platform, frontend, and backend aspects. You will collaborate cross-functionally with product, program management, and business teams to deliver exciting new features on aggressive timelines. You will interact with our extensive partners, evaluate new use cases, platforms and integration options as well as manage existing features, root cause issues, identify improvements and help translate these needs to remote development teams. You need to be a hands-on engineer who can look at the code, internal systems, APIs and be able to propose architecture changes, sequence diagrams, debate on pros & cons of alternatives with offshore engineers across regions.
Role and Responsibilities
Responsibilities
  • Leading the development and delivery of innovative, cutting-edge solutions for Samsung Wallet.
  • Drive MAU growth and market expansion through the strategic leadership of cross-functional and remote teams, with a focus on native mobile app development.
  • Define and execute a visionary technical strategy and multi-year roadmap to address current operations, and future tech innovations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional leaders to guide successful product releases, unlock new business opportunities, and business team in closing key partnerships.
  • Contributing to the vision and roadmap of Samsung Wallet.
  • Defining and articulating technical requirements for features.
  • Be the technical liaison for new and existing Samsung Wallet partners.
  • Creating the technical materials for Samsung teams as well as partners.
  • Create and update technical requirement, architecture diagram and sequence flows.
  • Be involved in development, testing and launch status tracking and flag risks as necessary to management and handle escalations.

Experience Requirements:
  • 10+ years of experience in a hands-on engineering management role
  • Expertise in native mobile app development on Android; Deep knowledge of Android internals, frameworks, SDKs
  • Experience in large scale, mobile-first applications and services is mandatory; preferably in mobile wallets, payments.
  • Proven track record of innovating in the fintech and mobile payments space
  • Strong communication, leadership, and coaching skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and drive continuous delivery
  • Ability to gain influence across the business without authority.
  • Ability to align with global direction from Headquarters but also influence and contribute to it.
  • Ability to navigate international cultures and work across time zones and willingness to work with a remotely located development and design team.
  • Able to travel domestic or internationally, when required, to meet partners, development team or other stakeholders.

Skills and Qualifications
Compensation for this role, for candidates based in New York, NY, is expected to be between $190,000 ~ $220,000 base. Actual pay will be determined considering factors such as relevant skills and experience, and comparison to other employees in the role.
