TemperPack is a rapidly growing company based in Richmond, Virginia and with locations in Las Vegas Nevada, and Holt Michigan. We design and manufacture innovative, sustainable packaging components for cold-chain shipping of food and pharmaceutical products.  The markets we serve have an urgent need for disruptive, sustainable alternatives to replace the wide array of non-sustainable packaging materials conventionally used in the cold-chain such as Styrofoam coolers.  Our aspiration is to provide packaging solutions that customers and end-consumers feel great about using.

Job Title: Sample Technician

Reports to: Packaging Engineering Manager

Business Unit: Packaging Engineering

Job Description:

At TemperPack we develop custom shipping solutions using our high performance, recyclable packaging materials. Our Sample Technician will play a key role in our commercial operation.

The primary function of this role will be working closely with our sales teams to create high quality prototypes of TemperPack’s current and future products. Our Sales team uses those prototypes as a key tool in our sales process, and our Lab team uses them for thermal testing. In both instances, well-constructed and aesthetically pleasing prototypes are required daily to ensure TemperPack can sustain its unprecedented company growth.  

This person will spend their days in our lab, measuring and constructing customized materials. The role requires attention to detail, enjoyment of process, and a high level of responsibility.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Construct and ship product samples to prospective customers & for internal testing
  • Maintain an orderly, well stocked inventory of raw materials to produce samples
  • Manage inbound and outbound materials from UPS/FedEx,
  • Handle intake of product samples carefully documenting with pictures and measurements.
  • Gather materials from nearby production facility as needed
  • Maintain and calibrate equipment on regular cadence
  • Assist Thermal and Packaging Engineers in setting up and breaking down thermal tests.
  • Assist teams across the organization with materials as needed. 

Education and Experience:

  • 1+ year of working in a prototype lab/shop
  • Experience in the packaging industry is preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field required. 
  • Ability to make things with precision and consistency
  • Critical eye to spot any defects before a prototype is sent out to customers
  • Ability to use basic hand tools such as a wrench, paper cutter and scraper
  • Ability to read tape measure to 1/16th of an inch
  • Ability to use basic power tools such as a drill or screwdriver.
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office Suite (especially Excel)
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others and as part of a team
  • Adaptable to dynamic workload and changing priorities based on customer needs and business priorities
  • Ability to wear PPEs such as, but not limited to, safety glasses, ear plugs, closed toed shoes extended periods.
  • Ability to cooperate with other team members and to contribute positively to an engaging and positive work environment.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
