Job description

TITLE: Certified Medical Assistant

SUMMARY: Certified Medical Assistant performs selected patient care activities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Education: High School Diploma/GED.

Licensure: N/A

Certification: Certified Medical Assistant Certification required.

Experience: Experience in psychiatric setting preferred.

Knowledge/Skills: Ability to maintain composure in difficult situations. Ability to follow written and verbal directions. Verbal/written communication skills.

EQUIPMENT: Computer, thermometer, B/P cuff - fax machine, copier, scales - as well as any other equipment required to perform responsibilities related to the position.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Perform patient care tasks as assigned, including obtaining and documenting vital signs.

2. Assist with scheduling and patient flow.

3. Maintain outpatient medication management caseload to meet all required standards.

4. Review patient records prior to medical appointments to assure that standards are met and assure that all information needed for clinic is present.

5. Obtain Vital Signs and update allergies and list of current medications.

6. Administer medications / injections as directed by the nurse.

7. Provide sample/assist medications to patients as directed by the nurse.

8. Assist with receipt and inventory of sample and patient assistance medication programs

9. Assist medical and outpatient staff in communicating with consumers as well as other facilities/ providers.

10. Assist with obtaining releases of information and obtaining needed/requested info from outside providers.

11. Assist with prior authorization of medication as necessary/requested.

12. Arrange in-service presentations.

13. Assist medical and outpatient staff by completing any non-medical duties related to medication clinic and consumers receiving medication from Frontier Health.

14. Attend and participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings, in-services and staffing as needed.

15. All other duties as assigned.
