Job description

Job Overview

The Lead Software Asset Management (SAM) Specialist oversees SAM projects, drives automation and process efficiencies, develops tool strategies, mentors team members, optimizes data integrations, ensures data integrity, tracks and reports assets, manages asset lifecycles, provides licensing expertise, resolves compliance issues, supports stakeholders, and champions continuous improvement and innovation.

This hands-on Lead role is executionfocused and operates under manager’s defined strategy and priorities.

  • Drive savings, optimization, and compliance outcomes with urgency.
  • Operate within strict governance, policy, and audit requirements.
  • Influence execution decisions through expertise, not authority.
  • Move work to MVP quickly; iterate from results, not theory.


Responsibilities

  • Lead Software Asset projects as project coordinator and project contributor driving engagements and projects related to maturing, enhancing, auditing, and modifying the SAM program while strategically pursuing avenues of automation and process efficiencies, and document the outcomes.
  • Guide the team on SAM tactical outcomes, and milestones in direct alignment to team leadership, ensuring alignment with system goals and KPIs.
  • Drive the development and execution of enterprise tool strategy, oversee the SAM tool lifecycle, and promote its value across the enterprise.
  • Guide, mentor, and execute development of mature processes and procedures to automate the collection, storage, and reporting of key software data, including SOPs and WIs.
  • Drive partnering engagements and oversee the optimization of integrations with SAM-relevant data source technologies, APIs, and discovery sources owned by other IT teams to ensure trustworthy data, improved discovery, and enhanced insights. Promote the use of advanced data integration techniques to enhance the overall SAM program.
  • Oversee and ensure the integrity of records and databases containing information regarding software assets, licenses, warranties, services, and lease agreements to ensure proper documentation, compliance, and inventory.
  • Lead the tracking and reporting of software assets, analyze large amounts of data and trends, and create dashboards with KPIs to provide best practices, compliance information, and financial insights for cost optimization.
  • Manage and optimize the entire lifecycle of software assets, including maintaining up-to-date records, validating discovery data accuracy, and addressing discrepancies.
  • Offer advanced licensing expertise, design license metrics, and administer the SAM tool while maintaining data sources.
  • Lead the tracking and resolution of legal/contractual/licensing compliance issues, implement remediation plans, prepare for software audits, and generate reports on compliance and software usage.
  • Lead and coordinate the support of key stakeholders, including application leadership, security, engineering, enterprise architecture, vendor management, finance, general end users, contracting, and other key stakeholders, aligning to SAM processes, standards, and capabilities. Enable a feedback loop for continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Focus on continuous improvement by staying updated with industry trends and best practices, and encouraging innovation and efficiency.


Required Qualifications

  • B.S./B.A. in business or technology field or
  • Combination Education & Experience
  • B.S./B.A. in business or technology field
  • 7+ years of experience in IT Asset Management (ITAM) including the following: 5+ years of Senior+ level skillset in Software Asset Management (SAM). 3+ years of mentoring team members. 3+ years of experience training internal/external stakeholders and partners on ITAM process and skills.
  • Demonstrated successful implementation of a SAM technology and operationalizing a SAM program.
  • 1+ year(s) of experience leading teams and complex projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive tactical outcomes with minimal guidance beyond strategy and expected outcomes or goals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience creating presentations. Experience presenting to large audiences and all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent reporting skills with multiple of the following areas demonstrating evidence of showing the value through performance metrics, financials, capacity, smart goals, and efficiencies/automation.
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with all levels of the organization, including strong collaboration, facilitation, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate problem-solving among groups with varying needs and priorities; effectively lead without direct authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Demonstrated ability to guide tactical day-to-day decision-making while completing multiple daily objectives effectively and efficiently.
  • Demonstrated ability to explain technical concepts in non-technical language.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in Software Asset Management (SAM).
  • 2+ year(s) of experience leading teams, complex projects, and/or mentoring lower-level team members to improved performance or successful outcomes.
  • Client and stakeholder relationship management experience and the ability to proactively manage expectations.
  • Experience with administration, maintenance, compliance, and management of SAM (SAM Pro) in ServiceNow.
  • Experience with Finance, Vendor Management, and Software Contracts.
  • Experience within the Healthcare Industry and experience in a large, complex organization.
  • Proven track record of achieving cost-savings and ROI benefits from SAM technology and processes.
  • IAITAM CSAM or IAITAM Certification(s)
  • ServiceNow Certification(s)
  • Handson ServiceNow SAM Pro
  • SAM Pro implementation experience establishing SAM from the ground up.
  • Project delivery using ServiceNow workflows, tasks, and reporting.
  • ServiceNow Platform Analytics experience — advanced reporting and dashboard creation (beyond OOTB).
  • Proven ability to navigate crossfunctional environments and large forums, and steer discussions to decisions and organizational value.
