Salary: $80,000

SAM Construction Groupis the construction division for our vertically-integrated developer, SAM Development Group. We specialize in new mid-rise multifamily and luxury home construction. Our structures are concrete and steel, with in-house divisions self-performing a variety of trade craft scopes including:

grading/excavation, underground wet/dry utilities, concrete/rebar, framing/drywall, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, roofing, landscaping, pools, as well as other scopes


Job Summary:

Landscape Plant/Tree Specialist is responsible for maintaining the health, appearance, and safety of trees and landscape plants across assigned properties, including planting, pruning, watering, fertilizing, pest and disease control, equipment operation, and routine grounds maintenance. May also inspect plant health, recommend treatments, and assist with landscape improvement projects.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Performs routine inspections, audits and adjustments to a variety of plants/trees to ensure maximum efficiency and performance
  • Plant and transplant trees, shrubs, and other landscape plants.
  • Prune, trim, and remove dead or diseased growth.
  • Inspect plants for pests, disease, and nutrient or watering problems.
  • Apply fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides, and irrigation as needed.
  • Operate landscaping and tree-care equipment safely.
  • Maintain records, inventory, and work schedules.
  • Train or supervise other staff.
  • Coordinates projects and work activities with co-workers, other divisions, departments and contractors as applicable
  • Serves as liaison as assigned to assist with complex problems/situations and provides technical expertise
  • Reviews and makes recommendations to current systems
  • Programs and adjusts irrigation controllers as needed throughout the year to maintain water wise sustainable practices
  • Performs a variety of skilled tasks during the install process
  • Daily interaction with project site superintendent
  • Oversight of installations per plans and specifications
  • Responsible for ensuring the daily maintenance of equipment
  • Communicate any safety incidents to project site superintendent
  • Performs other duties as required


Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in commercial Landscape Construction
  • Read and interpret maps, blueprints, technical specifications & operational manuals
  • Valid drivers license and acceptable motor vehicle record (Required)
  • General knowledge of OSHA standards and requirements
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug test and background check
  • Possess a strong work ethic and desire to learn
  • Establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of work
  • Dependability - Follows instructions, responds to management direction; takes responsibility for own actions; keeps commitments; commits to long hours of work when necessary to reach goals; completes tasks on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan.


Physical Requirements:

  • Working full shifts in the high Arizona desert heat where temperatures could get as high as 120 degrees
  • Ability to handle physical labor and strenuous tasks.
  • Able to stand and walk project site for extended period of times.
  • Regularly talk and/or hear.
  • Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel.
  • Occasionally required to but not limited to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs and work in confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment.
  • Must be able to position one-self to work in confined spaces such as trenches, pits, manholes, attics and tunnels.
  • Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move at least 50 pounds regularly/occasionally
  • Must be able to respond quickly to sounds.
  • Must be able to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to see and respond to dangerous situations.
  • Must be able to safely climb ladders while carrying up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective gear most of the day.
  • Must be able to work in hot and cold environments and on concrete floors.
