What does a Salesforce developer do?

A Salesforce Developer designs, builds, and customizes applications within the Salesforce platform to meet specific business needs. They use programming languages like Apex and Visualforce, as well as tools like Lightning Components, to create custom workflows, integrations, and user interfaces. Salesforce Developers work closely with stakeholders to gather requirements, ensure data security, and optimize the platform for better performance and usability. Their work helps organizations automate processes, enhance customer relationship management, and leverage the full capabilities of Salesforce.

What does a Salesforce developer do?

As a Salesforce developer, your duties are to work as part of a development team to code software or application solutions on the Salesforce platform or another piece of Salesforce cloud technology. You typically develop these projects on behalf of other businesses, tailoring development to their needs. These solutions may include new storage architecture, effective strategies to distribute data across a business enterprise network, or innovative methods to create more efficient CRM workflow. Your responsibilities also require you to work closely with QA workers and end users to test solutions and ensure that they meet specifications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Salesforce developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Salesforce Developer, you need a solid understanding of Salesforce platform features, Apex programming, Lightning components, and a relevant degree or Salesforce certifications like Salesforce Platform Developer I/II. Experience with Salesforce development tools such as Visual Studio Code, Salesforce CLI, and version control systems is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and a collaborative mindset help developers excel within cross-functional teams and meet client needs. These competencies are essential to deliver scalable, secure, and effective Salesforce solutions that drive business success.

What are some typical challenges Salesforce developers face when integrating third-party applications?

Salesforce Developers often encounter challenges such as data compatibility issues, managing API limits, and ensuring secure data transfer when integrating third-party applications. They must also stay updated on both Salesforce and external systems' API changes to prevent disruptions. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including business analysts and external vendors, is essential to design robust solutions and troubleshoot integration problems efficiently.

  • Provide regular feedback to team members, helping them break down complex problems into manageable tasks and ensuring professional growth.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture where diverse perspectives and continuous knowledge-sharing are encouraged.

Individual Contributor Responsibilities

  • Serve as a hands-on technical lead, designing and developing automations, coding solutions, and writing technical specifications for Salesforce Marketing Cloud projects.
  • Collaborate with architects and project managers to define project requirements and deliver solutions that meet client business goals.
  • Contribute to product implementation and customisation using Salesforce Marketing Cloud, AMPscript, JavaScript, SQL, HTML, CSS, and related technologies.
  • Provide technical expertise during the testing phase, ensuring quality and troubleshooting any issues related to client applications and platforms.
  • Apply agile methodologies (Scrum and Kanban) to provide feedback, track progress, and update stakeholders on the status of ongoing projects.
  • Continuously improve your skills and stay up-to-date with the latest Salesforce Marketing Cloud tools, ensuring your technical knowledge is current.
Who are you going to work with?

You will work closely with a diverse and skilled team of over 150 colleagues, including Salesforce Architects, Developers, Technical Project Managers, Data Specialists, and Designers.
