Position: Thermal Engineer
Pay: $100k+DOE
Location: Sand Springs, OK
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Thermal Engineer to support the sales and engineering teams by providing thermal design expertise and technical evaluations for custom shell and tube heat exchangers. This role is responsible for reviewing customer specifications, developing thermal designs, evaluating fabrication feasibility, and providing accurate engineering support during the quoting process. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with thermal design software, ASME and TEMA standards, and the custom pressure vessel industry.
Responsibilities
• Design and size shell and tube heat exchangers to meet customer process requirements and operating conditions
• Review customer-provided process data and verify thermal designs for optimal flow, fouling resistance, and vibration-free performance
• Coordinate with customer process engineers to obtain additional technical information when required
• Recommend alternative designs that improve manufacturability, reduce costs, or increase performance
• Review customer RFQ packages to determine project scope and manufacturing feasibility
• Identify customer specifications that may impact fabrication methods, testing requirements, project schedules, or overall costs
• Prepare engineering "Run Sheets" that provide material requirements, fabrication estimates, and technical notes to support the sales team during the quoting process
• Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Shop Management to resolve potential design or fabrication concerns
• Provide technical guidance and support to the Sales team throughout the quotation process
• Maintain engineering documentation and support continuous improvement initiatives
• Perform additional engineering duties as assigned
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent industry experience
• Minimum of 15 years of thermal engineering experience within the custom shell and tube heat exchanger and pressure vessel industry
• Extensive knowledge of ASME Section VIII, Division 1, TEMA, and related industry standards including API, PIP, and engineering best practices
• Proficiency with HTRI thermal design software and Microsoft Office applications
• Experience with RCS or COMPRESS software is a plus
• Strong understanding of heat transfer principles, fluid flow, and pressure vessel design
• Excellent analytical, mathematical, and engineering problem-solving skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both engineering and sales personnel
Preferred Competencies
• Advanced knowledge of shell and tube heat exchanger thermal design and optimization
• Strong understanding of fabrication methods and manufacturing processes
• Excellent customer support and technical consulting abilities
• Ability to evaluate project feasibility and identify cost-saving opportunities during the quoting process
• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple quote requests simultaneously
• Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Project Management teams
• Commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality engineering support while driving continuous improvement initiatives
Physical Requirements
• Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer
• Occasional standing, walking, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 20 pounds
• Work performed primarily in a climate-controlled office environment

• Monday – Friday, full-time
