Sales Development Intern information

What does a sales development intern do?

A Sales Development Intern supports the sales team by identifying and qualifying potential leads, conducting research on prospective clients, and assisting with outreach efforts such as phone calls and emails. They often help schedule meetings between qualified leads and sales representatives and maintain records in customer relationship management (CRM) systems. This role provides valuable hands-on experience in the sales process and is typically geared toward students or recent graduates looking to start a career in sales.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a sales development intern?

To thrive as a Sales Development Intern, you need strong communication skills, a basic understanding of sales principles, and the ability to quickly learn about products or services, typically supported by ongoing education or a relevant degree. Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems like Salesforce and proficiency in using email outreach platforms are often expected. Proactivity, resilience, and a collaborative attitude help interns excel when reaching out to prospects and working with sales teams. These skills are crucial for generating leads, building relationships, and supporting overall sales growth within the organization.

What are some common challenges faced by sales development interns, and how can they overcome them?

Sales Development Interns often face challenges such as managing rejection, quickly learning product details, and efficiently qualifying leads. Navigating these obstacles requires resilience, a willingness to ask questions, and proactive communication with mentors or team members. Embracing feedback, utilizing available sales tools, and participating in regular training sessions can help interns build confidence and develop effective sales techniques.

Job description

Description
Are you a naturally persuasive, people-oriented individual who loves talking to people, asking good questions, and figuring out problems that other people avoid?
Do you have a forward-thinking streak-and perhaps find the idea of investigating deceased owners, missing heirs, unpaid taxes, family mysteries, and forgotten properties strangely fascinating? Join our family-run land investment company and help us uncover valuable opportunities hidden inside properties with complicated ownership situations.
We are a successful vacant land investment business that has recently expanded into the world of "messy title" real estate. These are properties that may have deceased owners, multiple heirs, unpaid property taxes, unresolved estates, family disagreements, or other ownership complications.
Most investors look at these properties and run away. We look at them and say, "Well...this is interesting."
As a Messy Title Acquisitions Intern, you will initially focus heavily on cold calling potential property owners and heirs. You may also follow up with leads generated through online advertising, direct mail, and other marketing campaigns. In addition, you will help research properties, ownership histories, family relationships, court records, and other information that helps us determine whether an opportunity is worth pursuing. This is not an internship where you quietly reorganize spreadsheets in a dark corner while everyone forgets your name.
You will have real conversations with real people about real properties. You will learn sales, negotiation, real estate investing, lead generation, title research, and how to identify opportunities that most people completely miss.
This position is perfect for someone who is incredibly personable, naturally inclined toward sales, competitive, curious, and excited by the possibility of helping build something from the ground up.
Your mission in this position is to start conversations, build trust, uncover the real story behind each property, consistently follow up with potential sellers, and help turn overlooked leads into profitable real estate opportunities.
What We're Looking For in a Team Member:
We value candidates who resonate with our core values:
  • Professional Conduct - We treat everyone with respect and integrity, keeping communication professional and timely.
  • Continually Pursuing Growth - We're always improving, learning, and adapting to become better at what we do.
  • Team-First Attitude - We collaborate, support, and have each other's backs-we win together.
  • Drive to Serve Others - Whether it's clients, partners, or teammates, we always go the extra mile.
  • Follow-Up in Communication - We're pleasantly persistent, ensuring nothing gets lost in the shuffle.
  • Reliability - We do what we say we will, meeting deadlines and staying accountable.
  • Proactive Effort - We take ownership of our work, anticipate challenges, and solve problems before they happen.
  • Flexibility - Things change, and we adapt to keep moving forward.

Do these ring true with your soul-and does the idea of getting paid to solve real estate mysteries sound more interesting than making coffee and alphabetizing folders?
What We Offer:
  • $14 per hour.
  • A results-oriented commission equal to 10% of the gross profit on properties you directly help acquire, paid after the property sells.
  • Real-world sales experience-not role-playing exercises that disappear into a professor's filing cabinet.
  • Hands-on training in cold calling, negotiation, real estate acquisitions, property research, genealogy, title issues, and distressed property investing.
  • Direct mentoring from the company's owners and experienced team members.
  • The opportunity to participate in actual deals and see the financial results of your work.
  • A supportive, close-knit team environment.
  • Significant room to grow for someone who performs well and embraces responsibility.
  • The possibility of this internship developing into a full-time position for the right person.
  • The long-term opportunity to help lead and build our messy title acquisitions department.
  • For an exceptional person who creates substantial value over time, there may even be an opportunity to participate in company ownership far into the future.

To be clear, we are not promising that someone will work here for three months, acquire two properties, and receive the keys to the kingdom.
However, we believe strongly in rewarding people who think like owners, produce meaningful results, earn trust, and help us build something valuable.
Who This Position Is Probably Not For:
This position probably is not for you if:
  • You are terrified of talking to strangers.
  • You give up after one unanswered call.
  • You believe following up twice qualifies as "being persistent."
  • You need every hour of your day mapped out for you.
  • You want an internship that looks impressive on paper but does not require you to produce anything.
  • You dislike sales, competition, accountability, or measurable results.
  • You regularly say, "That's not my job."
  • You would rather avoid a difficult problem than become the person who knows how to solve it.

This position may be an outstanding fit if you are hungry, coachable, persuasive, curious, and excited by the idea of learning how real businesses and real estate deals are actually built.
How to Apply:
Send us:
  • Your resume.
  • A brief introduction about yourself.
  • Your answer to: What appeals to you about this job, and why do you think you would be a great fit?
  • Tell us about a time you persuaded someone, sold something, started a project, or found a creative solution to a difficult problem.
  • Include your general availability and whether you are available to work occasional evenings or weekends.

Do not spend three hours creating a cinematic masterpiece. We mostly want to hear how you communicate, whether you can hold someone's attention, and whether your personality comes through.
Start your email with the phrase:
"Meet your new family member [Your Name]."
This demonstrates your attention to detail and prevents your application from immediately disappearing into the mysterious land where applicants who do not follow directions go.
A Note From Dave:
I am one of the owners, Dave, and if this sounds fascinating to you, we'd love to learn more about you. This business has been a blessing to my family and so many others, and I take it seriously. I started the business in 2017 and believe in having multiple streams of income. I would love to take the right person under my wing and teach them not only how to perform this job, but how to think like a salesperson, investor, and future leader.
They say your spouse is the only family member you get to choose. However, our small team is a family, and I'll get to choose you!
Some facts about me are the following:
I'm the dad of two amazing girls-one in college and one finishing junior high-and husband to my even more amazing wife. I live in the Twin Cities area and love being outside running, walking, hiking, or biking.
I'm also a total nerd who loves reading fantasy books-check out Michael J. Sullivan; he's awesome-as well as business books. I enjoy playing World War 3: Conflict of Nations on my phone, and on occasion, I have been known to break a few windows when I try to sing.
I am genuinely excited about building this department. I believe the right intern could learn an enormous amount, make a meaningful contribution, earn commissions from actual properties, and potentially build a career that extends far beyond a normal college internship.
