Job description

The Royal Group, an affiliate of Schwarz Partners, are currently seeking an Accounting Manager to support our Indianapolis, IN facility. The Accounting Manager is a key member of the Accounting Department's management team and is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting functions of the company's multiple business segments. This position will be responsible for maintaining effective internal controls, accounting practices, and procedures designed to ensure high transactional integrity/accuracy of the company's accounting records. This position oversees and supports a team of accounting staff members and is responsible for ensuring their duties are completed timely and accurately. The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the company's general ledgers and supporting subsidiary ledgers in accordance with Generally Acceptable Accounting Procedures (GAAP). This position plays an essential role in leading the company's month-end and year-end accounting close processes to a timely and accurate conclusion.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS FOR THIS POSITION:
  • Oversee and support accounting staff members in the performance of their duties for the following core accounting functions: Customer onboarding & credit risk assessment, Credit hold resolution process, A/R billing & collections, A/P vouchering, and Cash disbursements.
  • Maintain the company's general ledgers and subsidiary ledgers.
  • Lead month-end and year-end accounting close processes for the company's multiple business segments including preparing/reviewing workpapers supporting general ledger balances. Prepare and input adjusting journal entries.
  • Maintain the company's fixed asset records.
  • Prepare and file the company's monthly, quarterly, or annual sales & use tax returns in accordance with the company's compliance requirements.
  • Review and approve customer credit memo requests and coordinate with billing staff to process credit memos in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the company's financial reporting requirements and general ledger account structure.
  • Ensure that process workflows, and work instructions are documented for all accounting functions and that accounting staff fully understand their proper application.
  • Establish annual development goals and monitor their progress to enhance the professional development of staff. Conduct annual performance reviews of accounting staff members.
  • Work with staff to identify improvement opportunities within the department.
  • Resolve personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.
  • Review and approve hourly staff members' work hours, overtime, and vacation requests.
  • Resolve ACH and check positive pay banking exceptions and other day-to-day banking requirements.
  • Publish monthly financial statements and other ad hoc reports to members of management.
  • Process customer credit card payments.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in Accounting, CPA certification a plus.

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Five to seven years prior supervisory experience in the financial reporting/general ledger area.
  • Experience with complex ERP systems, data extraction & analysis a plus.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Must have strong technical expertise with Microsoft Excel.
  • Ten-key by touch required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills required.
  • Must be PC proficient and able to thrive in a fast-paced setting. Ability to multi-task and work under tight deadlines required.
