Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Rectory Housemaid provides essential household maintenance and hospitality support for the Saint Michael Parish Rectory. This position ensures a clean, comfortable, and well-organized living environment for our parish priest(s) and a welcoming space for visiting clergy and guests. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, and respectful of the sacred and communal nature of parish life.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Routine Cleaning

  • Perform regular cleaning of all Rectory common areas including dusting, wiping down counters, surfaces, and fixtures
  • Sweep and mop hard floor surfaces throughout the Rectory on a scheduled basis
  • Clean and sanitize all restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and floors when needed
  • Maintain a tidy and orderly appearance throughout the residence at all times

Laundry Services

  • Launder, dry, fold, and return clothing and linens belonging to the parish priest(s) in a timely and organized manner
  • Clean and maintain all laundry room equipment and the laundry room itself, including organizing supplies and keeping the space functional and orderly

Dining Room Preparation

  • Set up and prepare the dining room for the Saturday evening dinner hosted for parish staff and families
  • Ensure table settings, linens, and the dining space reflect the hospitality and dignity appropriate to parish community gatherings
  • Organize and schedule volunteers donating/delivering food. 

Guest Room Preparation & Turnover

  • Prepare guest rooms prior to the arrival of visiting clergy or other guests, including fresh linens, towels, and room amenities
  • Perform full room turnover after guests depart, including laundering linens, sanitizing surfaces, and restoring the room to guest-ready condition

Kitchen & Refrigerator Maintenance

  • Clean out and organize the refrigerator on a weekly basis, discarding expired items, wiping down shelves and drawers, and maintaining food storage hygiene
  • Maintain overall cleanliness of kitchen surfaces and common food preparation areas during scheduled cleaning

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Previous housekeeping, cleaning, or domestic service experience preferred
  • Ability to follow a cleaning schedule and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Reliability, punctuality, and strong attention to detail
  • Respect for the privacy and dignity of the Rectory as a clerical residence
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs., stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive physical tasks
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality regarding parish household matters

Preferred

  • Experience in a household, hospitality, or ecclesiastical setting
  • Familiarity with Catholic parish culture and respect for the faith environment
  • Basic understanding of proper handling and care of linens, delicate fabrics, and household furnishings and cleaning supplies
  • Basic understanding of appropriate use of cleaning materials on varies surfaces

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is performed in a residential/rectory setting. The position requires standing, bending, kneeling, and repetitive motion associated with cleaning tasks. The employee must be comfortable working in an active parish and clerical household environment. A consistent and agreed-upon schedule will be established in coordination with the supervisor.

ARCHDIOCESAN REQUIREMENTS

All employees of Saint Michael Parish are required to comply with Archdiocese of Seattle policies, including:

  • Completion of a background check prior to employment
  • Compliance with the Safe Environment (VIRTUS) training requirements as applicable
  • Adherence to the Code of Conduct for Archdiocesan employees

Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
