Job Tittle: RN Case Manager (Utilization Review)
Location: Bakersfield, CA 93306
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (Day Shift) with rotating weekend coverage
Duration: 13 weeks+ | 40hr/week
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) - Case Management / Utilization Review to support care coordination, utilization management, discharge planning, and reimbursement compliance in an acute care setting. The ideal candidate will have strong experience reviewing medical necessity, coordinating patient care transitions, and ensuring adherence to payer and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform utilization review for inpatient admissions and continued stays to determine medical necessity and appropriate level of care.
  • Review and evaluate medical records to ensure required documentation is complete and compliant with payer requirements.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, case managers, and interdisciplinary teams regarding patient care plans and discharge needs.
  • Develop, coordinate, and document effective discharge plans to support safe patient transitions.
  • Identify reimbursement, authorization, and payer-related issues and facilitate appropriate resolutions.
  • Coordinate care services and resource utilization to promote efficient and cost-effective patient care.
  • Review elective procedures and specialized services to ensure proper authorization and reimbursement eligibility.
  • Educate providers regarding documentation requirements, prior authorizations, reimbursement guidelines, and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain knowledge of payer regulations, reimbursement policies, disease processes, and treatment modalities.
  • Assist with training and mentoring staff as needed.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and other assigned duties.

Required Qualifications
  • Active California Registered Nurse (RN) License.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Minimum two (2) years of acute care RN experience.
  • At least one (1) year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience.
  • One (1) year of Utilization Review and/or Discharge Planning experience in an acute care hospital.
OR
  • Two (2) years of Case Management experience in a clinic, physician office, or similar healthcare setting performing utilization review and discharge planning functions.
