Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatrist
Immediate Opening, PART AND FULL-TIME
The Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatrist will provide psychiatric assessment, medication, and monitoring of client's functioning. This is an independent position with physician collaboration available as needed. The Primary Care provider works within a team of care managers, social workers, and nurses who deliver wraparound services to individuals to ensure coordination of care and other needed support services. The practice will emphasize health promotion and disease prevention, as well as treatment of acute and chronic physical and mental health problems. The Nurse Practitioner has the authority to prescribe medications, order tests, and maintain plans.
Requirements
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Sees clients, makes diagnoses, prescribes medication, and monitors client use of and response to medication.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, including physicians, psychiatrists, care managers and nursing staff, in order to develop, implement, and evaluate treatment plans.
  • Consults with physicians and other professionals when unusual or complex cases are encountered.
  • Makes written diagnoses based on the current diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders.
  • Provides clinical information for disability determination, insurance companies, and other entities or employers.
  • Distinguishes between physiologically and psychologically based disorders and diagnoses appropriately.
  • Assesses and documents client and family response to intervention.
  • Documents and operates effectively within the Agency's Electronic Health Record.
  • Prescribes appropriate medications for physical and mental health issues, demonstrating knowledge of drug action, interaction, and reactions
  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities; may perform technical skills and administer medications safely and efficiently.
  • Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physicals for complex acute, critical, and chronically ill clients
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to the patient's age-specific needs
  • Monitors the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Facilitates the patient's transition within and between health care settings, e.g., admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.
  • Provides education and consultation to the Agency care management staff to ensure coordination of care and improved health outcomes.
  • Reports to the appropriate staff, in a timely fashion, any unsafe activities, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients, and family members.
  • Demonstrates awareness of, follows all safety policies and procedures, and adheres to all recommended safe work practices. Also contributes to the control of hazards in specified area of responsibility.
  • Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned.

Education/ Training/ Experience and License Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program
  • Training as an Adult, Acute Care, Family, or Geriatric Nurse Practitioner is highly desirable
  • One year as an APN preferred, if less, prior nursing expereince required
  • Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse ( APRN) Licensure
  • Experience working with persons with developmental disabilities is preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated mastery of nursing concepts and principles and ability to identify and use appropriate concepts and principles from related sciences ( ex. behavioral sciences and biological sciences).
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills ( Microsoft Office) , including Word and Excel
  • Demonstrated competency and the ability to perform advanced assessment and diagnosis
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently and in collaboration with medical and associated staff
