Job description

Safety Manager

Safety Manager is responsible for leading, coordinating, and continuously improving the organizationโ€™s health and safety programs across the Pompeian manufacturing operations. This role centralizes key safety, health, and compliance activities that are currently managed within HR and Operations, providing consistent oversight, expertise, and accountability. The Safety Manager will continue to build on the companyโ€™s existing safety culture and active programs by strengthening compliance, standardizing practices, enhancing training, improving emergency procedures, and using data to reduce risk, prevent injuries, and support operational excellence at a multiโ€‘site, multiโ€‘shift manufacturing facility. The role is on site at Pompeian HQ at 4201 Pulaski Highway in Baltimore and will report to the VP of HR.

ResponsibilitiesSafety Program Leadership & Strategy
  • Own and administer the companywide health and safety management system across manufacturing operations
  • Evaluate existing safety programs and standardize best practices across sites and departments
  • Partner with Operations leadership to integrate safety into production, quality, warehouse, and maintenance activities
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for occupational health, industrial safety, and regulatory compliance
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, state, federal and local safety regulations
  • Lead internal inspections, regulatory inspections, and audits
  • Conduct job hazard analyses and risk assessments
  • Track corrective actions and ensure closure
Incident Management & Prevention
  • Lead injury, nearโ€‘miss, and incident investigations
  • Identify root causes and implement preventive actions
  • Coordinate workersโ€™ compensation with HR
  • Track and analyze safety performance metrics
  • Prepare & submit accident reports in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements
Training & Employee Engagement
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs
  • Support supervisor accountability for safety performance

Collaboration with HR & Operations
  • Partner with HR on workersโ€™ compensation, returnโ€‘toโ€‘work, and training documentation

  • Lead annual hearing testing, safety shoe allowance, and industrial hygiene testing
Data, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
  • Maintain OSHA logs, KPIs, and security documentation
  • Prepare dashboards, leadership reports and establish new processes as needed
  • Identify trends and recommend risk reduction initiatives
General
  • Align with company mission, goals and values

Requirements
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree required
  • 5+ years of safety or EHS experience in a manufacturing environment required
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations required
  • Experience with ISO 45001, OSHA Star, or other safety program standards a plus
  • Experience conducting incident investigations in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in multiโ€‘shift manufacturing settings
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence
  • Strong understanding of operations in a manufacturing environment
  • Continuous improvement mindset with a balance between compliance and practicality
  • Collaborative partnership approach and ability to lead others
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel required
