Safety Manager Job Summary:

The Safety Manageris responsible forleading, coordinating, and continuously improving the organizationโ€™s health and safety programs across the Pompeian manufacturing operations. This role centralizes key safety, health, and compliance activities that are currently managed within HR and Operations, providing consistent oversight,expertise, and accountability.The Safety Manager will continue to build on the companyโ€™s existing safety culture and active programs by strengthening compliance, standardizing practices, enhance training, enhance emergency procedures, and using data to reduce risk, prevent injuries, and support operational excellenceย at a multi-site, multi-shift manufacturing facility. The role is on site at Pompeian HQ at 4201 Pulaski Highway in Baltimore and will report to the VP of HR.

Safety Manager Job Requirements:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degreeย requiredย 
  • 5+ years of safety or EHS experience in a manufacturing environmentย requiredย 
  • In-depthย knowledge of OSHA regulationsย required
  • Experience with ISOย 45001, OSHA Star, or other safety program standards a plus
  • Experience conducting incident investigations in a manufacturing environmentย 
  • Experience in multi-shift manufacturing settingsย 
  • Strong communicationย skills and ability to influenceย 
  • Strong understanding of operations in a manufacturing environmentย 
  • Continuous improvement mindset with a balance between compliance and practicalityย 
  • Collaborative partnership approach and ability to lead othersย

Safety Manager Job Responsibilities:

Safety Program Leadership & Strategy

  • Own and administer the companywide health and safety management system across manufacturing operations
  • Evaluate existing safety programs and standardize best practices across sites and departments
  • Partner with Operations leadership to integrate safety into production, quality, warehouse,and maintenance activities
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for occupational health, industrial safety, and regulatory compliance

Regulatory Compliance & Risk Managementย 

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA,ย DOT,ย state,ย federalย and local safety regulations
  • Leadย internal inspections,ย regulatoryย inspections,ย and audits
  • Conduct job hazard analyses and risk assessments
  • Track corrective actions and ensure closure

Incident Management & Preventionย 

  • Lead injury,ย nearmiss, and incident investigations
  • Identifyroot causes and implement preventive actions
  • Coordinate workersโ€™ compensation with HR
  • Track and analyze safety performance metrics
  • Prepare & submit accident reports in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements

Training & Employee Engagementย 

  • Develop and deliver safety training programs
  • Support supervisor accountability for safety performance
  • Lead safety committees and employee engagement initiatives
  • Promote a proactive safety reporting culture

Collaboration with HR & Operations

  • Partner with HR on workersโ€™ compensation,ย returntowork, and training documentation
  • Partner with Operations on equipment safety, LOTO,ย CAPEX projectsย and contractor safety
  • Lead annual hearing testing,ย safety shoe allowance, and Industrial hygiene testing

Data, Reporting, & Continuous Improvementย 

  • Maintain OSHA logs. KPIs,ย and safety documentation
  • Prepare dashboards,ย leadership reportsย andย establishย new processesย as neededย 
  • Identifytrends and recommendย risk reductionย initiatives
