PURPOSE

Baker Group is creating a dedicated Manufacturing Safety Manager position to support our Offsite Manufacturing operations in Altoona, Iowa. This role will be the primary safety leader supporting multiple manufacturing buildings engaged in mechanical, electrical, and sheet metal fabrication operations. This position reports directly to the Corporate Safety Director and serves as the safety partner to manufacturing leadership.

This is a hands‑on manufacturing safety leadership position focused on building a strong safety culture, reducing risk, ensuring OSHA compliance, and supporting operational excellence throughout our manufacturing facilities.

The ideal candidate will be highly visible on the production floor, work closely with supervisors and employees, and drive proactive safety improvements rather than simply manage compliance requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are typical for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Key Areas of Responsibility:
  • OSHA General Industry (1910) compliance
  • Incident investigation and root cause analysis
  • Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments
  • Facility safety audits and inspections
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) program management
  • Forklift and powered industrial truck safety
  • Crane and rigging safety
  • Environmental compliance support
  • Hazard recognition and corrective action management
  • Safety leadership and employee engagement
  • Continuous improvement and ISO 9001 support
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Trainer on safety training
  • Prepare, maintain and manage all required safety documentation for offsite manufacturing
Manufacturing Operations Supported:
  • Mechanical fabrication
  • Electrical fabrication and assembly
  • Sheet metal fabrication
  • Welding and fabrication activities
  • Material handling operations
  • Forklift operations
  • Overhead crane operations
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Minimum of five years of manufacturing, industrial, or EHS experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA General Industry standards.
  • Experience in fabrication, manufacturing, or industrial operations.
  • Experience supporting ISO 9001 or similar management systems.
  • CSP or ASP certification is highly desired.
  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification preferred

ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY
  • Ability to walk production floors for extended periods.
  • Ability to stand, climb stairs, bend, kneel, and occasionally climb ladders.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to work in manufacturing environments with varying temperatures, noise levels, and around moving equipment.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hats, and steel‑toed footwear.
  • Ability to visually inspect equipment, work areas, and safety conditions.
