Overview

The Senior Manufacturing & Engineering Safety Professional serves as the primary safety resource for the Webster, NY manufacturing campus and is accountable for driving safety program strategy, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across multiple manufacturing facilities.

Embedded within the Corporate Workplace Safety team, this highly visible individual contributor role operates with significant independence to develop, implement, and sustain comprehensive safety programs while leveraging corporate resources and subject matter expertise as needed. The successful candidate will provide expert-level leadership in manufacturing safety, influence safety culture across organizational boundaries, and ensure alignment between operational objectives and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities Strategic Safety Leadership
  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety programs across all Webster campus manufacturing facilities.
  • Establish safety program direction, performance standards, and improvement initiatives aligned with corporate safety strategy.
  • Identify and resolve complex safety challenges through expert judgment, risk assessment, and application of industry best practices.
  • Standardize safety processes and procedures across manufacturing operations to drive consistency and operational excellence.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through engagement, communication, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Hazard Management & Regulatory Compliance
  • Own the campus-wide hazard identification and risk assessment process for manufacturing operations.
  • Evaluate equipment, materials, work practices, and production processes to identify and mitigate safety risks.
  • Interpret OSHA, EPA, and corporate safety requirements and develop site-specific implementation strategies.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and assess impacts to operations, ensuring timely compliance and implementation of required changes.
  • Serve as the campus subject matter expert for regulatory compliance and risk management.
Program Ownership & Management
  • Manage and continuously improve critical safety programs, including:
    • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
    • Confined Space Entry
    • Fall Protection
    • Hot Work
    • Electrical Safety
    • Emergency Preparedness
    • Hearing Conservation
    • Respiratory Protection
    • Combustible Dust Safety
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs and evaluate effectiveness through performance metrics and observations.
  • Identify training gaps and implement solutions aligned with operational and regulatory requirements.
Data Analysis, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
  • Define, track, and analyze safety performance indicators (KPIs) and trends.
  • Translate data insights into actionable recommendations for plant leadership and corporate stakeholders.
  • Lead incident investigations using root cause analysis methodologies and ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented and sustained.
  • Conduct safety audits, inspections, and compliance reviews across manufacturing operations.
  • Prepare reports and strategic recommendations for site and corporate leadership.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Influence
  • Partner with plant leadership, operations teams, engineering organizations, and corporate EHS stakeholders to achieve safety objectives.
  • Provide safety guidance for capital projects, process changes, and operational initiatives.
  • Represent the Webster campus in corporate and cross-functional safety forums.
  • Influence decision-making through technical expertise, collaboration, and effective communication.
Required Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Certifications
  • OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour General Industry Certification required.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) strongly preferred.
Experience
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing safety, environmental health and safety (EHS), or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience managing site-wide safety programs within a complex manufacturing environment.
  • Strong experience interpreting and applying OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements in industrial operations.
  • Experience leading incident investigations, compliance audits, and risk assessments.
  • Experience in a unionized manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Prior experience providing technical guidance, mentoring, or informal leadership to safety professionals preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Expert knowledge of manufacturing safety principles, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Working knowledge of combustible dust hazards, NFPA standards, and OSHA combustible dust enforcement requirements.
  • Proven ability to identify systemic risks and develop practical, sustainable solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and complex projects independently.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including respirators, and work in manufacturing environments.
Additional Requirements
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Reliable personal transportation required.
  • Ability to travel regularly between campus facilities that are not accessible by foot.
