Job description

Amentumis looking for a Safety Officer to join our team inFall Church, Virginia. The Safety Officer works on a full-time basis under direction of the Program Manager and directly supports the program's security personnel.

Duties of this individual include:

  • General environmental and/or safety support services
  • Conducting investigations and analyses, and enforcement of all company and program safety protocols.
  • The primary location of this position will be in the greater Washington Metro Area; however, the Safety Officer may be required to TDY to CONUS and OCONUS projects as duty requires.
  • The individual must be a U.S. Citizen and maintain an active Top-Secret Security Clearance.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily safety site inspections and maintain written logs which include the area/operation inspected, date of inspection, identified hazards, recommended corrective actions, as well as estimated and actual dates of corrections.
  • Conduct mishap and near-miss investigations, and complete required associated reports. To include maintaining OSHA Forms 300, 300A, and 301.
  • Maintain applicable safety reference materials for all job sites.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety and health programs, systems, and procedures.
  • Recommend continuous improvement processes with designs, procedures, and operating equipment to proactively minimize hazards.
  • Assist in facilitating employee safety training, emergency preparedness for all job sites, and manage the quality of the training programs presented.
  • Attend pre-construction conferences, pre-work meetings, and in-process meetings to acquire and review relevant Job Hazard Assessments and Safety Data Sheets.
  • Ensure program personnel are trained in the use of, and consistently wear, proper PPE.
  • Perform all other position-related duties, as assigned or requested.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

An associate's degree in a Safety and Health related discipline from an accredited institution is preferred. Related certification(s) are desired. The individual must have completed an authorized OSHA 30-Hour Construction safety training course or the European Union equivalent within the last five (5) years and had an average of at least 24 hours of formal safety training each year for the past five (5) years. A minimum of five (5) years of safety work on similar projects is required. Additional work experience that includes site construction experience, and Safety and Environmental Compliance is desired. Preference will be given to individuals who have worked on US Government and Military domestic and international projects. Must be familiar with the U.S. Government Federal Acquisition Regulations. Must have a strong understanding of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and workplace safety regulations. Must have knowledge of Industrial Safety Programs, related industry standards, and best practices. Has the ability to use a computer and Microsoft Office software.

Required

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen, able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret Security Clearance
  • Must have reliable, personal transportation to move between sites within the Washington Metro Area
  • Must report to site daily (no remote work available)
  • Five (5) years of related experience in a safety field
    • Note: Three (3) years of related experience in a safety fieldwill be accepted with a bachelor's degree in a Safety and Health related discipline from an accredited institution
  • Associate's degree in a Safety and Health related discipline from an accredited institution, i.e., Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or other sciences.
    • Note: Safety-related experience may be substituted for educational requirements.
  • Written communication skills; working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications; organizational skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work are required.

Preferred

  • OSHA 30 Construction Safety Certification within last 5 years
    • Note: Candidate will be required to complete OSHA 30 certification within 90 days of hire
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certification in active status.
  • Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) Certification in active status.
    • Note: Candidate will be required to complete STS Certification within 180 days of hire
  • Work experience including construction site experience
  • Working knowledge of OSHA workplace safety regulations

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Must be able to work, kneel, bend, and stoop, and have correctable vision. Ability to TDY to CONUS and OCONUS projects which may require individual to cope with shared cafeteria, bath, and sleeping quarters. The working environment may be remote, confined and isolated, and travel in the local area may be very restricted. Must be able to travel to and between remote location(s) in austere or inhospitable high stress environments, and work with minimal direct supervision. During TDY requirements families are NOT allowed to accompany employee to the remote worksite.

Compensation Details:

$80,000-$90,000
