Description
The McNair Scholars Program on the campus of Sacramento State is seeking to hire two Graduate Student Assistants for their Peer Mentor role. Under the general supervision of the Sacramento State McNair Scholar Coordinator, and the McNair Scholars Administrative Coordinator, the McNair Student Assistants/Peer Mentors will be responsible for providing academic support and some administrative support to ensure the success of the programs and the participants of the programs.

Conditions of Employment
This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.
UEI does not allow employees to hold more than one UEI Job at a time, or work in more than one college or center per pay period. UEI employees who are considering leaving their current UEI position for a different UEI position should inform their supervisor in writing and provide at least a week's notice.
Depending on the type of position you are applying for, a pre-employment background check consisting of one or more of the following may be conducted: employment history, professional references, criminal check: educational verification (i.e., degree, license, or official transcript), DMV clearance. Applicants will be required to pass required pre-employment checks to the satisfaction of University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) and the hiring Agency or Department.
UEI is not a multi-state employer. UEI only employs candidates who live and work in the state of California. If selected for the position you must reside in California and all work must be performed in the state of California throughout the course of employment.
Prerequisites
Must be a Graduate Sac State student enrolled in at least four-semester units.

Work Schedule
Flexible workdays and work hours, Monday - Friday, between 8 AM - 5 PM. Final work schedule to be determined by supervisor.
Work will start on July 13, 2026 and does not include payment over winter break.
Additional Work Schedule
Graduate Student Assistant employees generally work up to 20 hours per workweek (Sunday - Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring & summer).
Compensation
$24.00 per hour
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have advanced research skill and experience.
  • Must have strong writing and editing skills.
  • Graduate student.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Some interdisciplinary research experience.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Advise McNair Scholar students on program policies and application procedures.
  • Tutor and/or mentor McNair Scholars to assist with their research/writing skills and general academic development.
  • Meet with McNair Scholars regularly to review research progress and writing.
  • Serve as a liaison between the McNair Faculty and McNair students.
  • Assist with the McNair Scholars classes as needed.
  • Track McNair Scholar progress through graduate degree completion.
  • Assist with the creation of brochures, publications, mail and email correspondence.
  • Assist with the data gathering and data management for various reports, including typing, mail processing and data entry.
  • Effectively operate office equipment.
  • Establish and maintain files, and ensure information confidentiality.
  • Update McNair social media platform accounts, i.e., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.

Physical Requirements
Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office environment.
