Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Dean, the BHC Outreach and Admission Coordinator (Coordinator) works to engage and inform current and prospective students (from preadmission to the university through graduation) in the educational and programmatic components and benefits of the Black Honors College (BHC).
The Coordinator is responsible for supporting the institutional progress on all initiatives for the Black Honors College. This work involves working collaboratively with other units on campus such as Admissions & Outreach, New Student Orientation, and Academic Advising when developing and implementing marketing and communication strategies (including related materials) that support these initiatives.
Work involves contributing to developing and presenting information to Sac State staff, administrators, advisors, counselors, and/or students enrolled at Sac State (through events, presentations, workshops, etc.) to help them understand and explore the benefits of participation in the BHC. Work includes preparing and presenting information to administrators, counselors, and/or students at regional high schools and community colleges (also through events, presentations, workshops, etc.) to help them understand requirements for admission as well as resources for engagement and support after admission.
The Coordinator must understand and convey requirements for admission to the campus and BHC, this includes reviewing applications and providing conditional admissions to potential students. Finally, the incumbent collaborates with the Dean and other staff to provide co-curricular activities for BHC students.
FLSA: Exempt (not eligible for overtime compensation)
Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,083 per month. Anticipated hiring rate is at the minimum of the classification salary range.

Work Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with occasional evenings and weekends depending on department needs. Summer Hours (May - August) will be 7:30am - 4:00pm with a 30 minute lunch.
Department Information
The Sacramento State Black Honors College (BHC), launched in August 2024, is Dr. Luke Wood President of Sacramento State's vision and the first of its kind in the nation. It offers an enhanced co-curricular experience for students, featuring specialized coursework, internships, mentorships, distinctive research opportunities, creative arts programs, residential living and learning initiatives, scholarships, and esteemed recognition.
Open to ALL students interested in Black history, culture, and contributions, the Black Honors College admits incoming first-year students every fall. Transfer students and continuing Sacramento State sophomores and juniors can apply for admission every spring. A minimum GPA of 3.5 is required for admission. Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge and Abilities:
Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of the program to which assigned; general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management. General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principles of individual and group behavior.
Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason logically; collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data; advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required; recognize multicultural, multisexed and multi aged value systems and work accordingly; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts; and, rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas Services Office.
Possession of these knowledge and abilities typically is demonstrated through the Experience requirements below.
Experience:
Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master's degree in a job related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
Education:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis.

- Proficiency using standard office software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Familiarity working with school-based record/data systems/software (example: PeopleSoft).
- Ability to apply moderately complex rules, regulations and procedures.
- Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents including faculty, students, staff, and members of the community.
