What is RPG consulting?

RPG consulting refers to professional services that specialize in the IBM RPG (Report Program Generator) programming language, which is widely used for business applications on IBM i (AS/400) systems. RPG consultants help organizations maintain, modernize, and develop applications written in RPG, ensuring that legacy systems remain efficient and compatible with new technologies. They may also provide training, code reviews, system integration, and migration services to help businesses get the most out of their IBM i infrastructure.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an RPG Consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as an RPG Consultant, you need a deep understanding of IBM i (AS/400) systems, expertise in RPG (Report Program Generator) programming languages, and experience with database management, often supported by a relevant degree or certifications. Familiarity with tools like IBM Rational Developer for i, CL programming, and source control systems is typically required.
