Network Technician - Job Description
Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Network Technician with strong experience in configuring, troubleshooting, and supporting carrier-grade network environments. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced operational settings, enjoys working directly with network hardware, and has a solid understanding of both legacy and modern transport technologies.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Perform hands-on configuration, installation, and troubleshooting of network equipment including routers, switches, and transport devices.
Support integration activities across customer and internal networks, ensuring smooth turn-ups and migrations.
Work with service provider-grade hardware (e.g., CenturyLink, Cox, and similar carriers) beyond basic consumer Wi-Fi routers.
Execute network diagnostics, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
Manage and maintain configurations across Nokia and Cisco routing/switching platforms.
Support TDM environments including DS1 bandwidth provisioning and Alcatel/Lucent (Terrace) systems.
Work within IP, MPLS, and Nokia transport environments to ensure reliable service delivery.
Document network changes, configurations, and troubleshooting steps.
Technical Environment

Transport Technologies: TDM, DS1, Alcatel Terrace
Routing & Switching: Nokia and Cisco platforms
Network Architectures: IP, MPLS
Carrier-grade Integrations: CenturyLink, Cox, and similar providers
Required Skills & Experience
Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting routers and switches.
Familiarity with console access, command-line interfaces, and network utilities.
Strong understanding of OSI model layers, routing fundamentals, and operational protocols.
Ability to interpret and modify network configurations in real time.
Experience with service provider or enterprise-scale network environments.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Nokia (formerly Alcatel-Lucent) routing platforms.
Exposure to MPLS environments and common routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, IS-IS).
Background working with TDM circuits and DS1 provisioning.
Prior experience supporting or integrating with telecom carriers.
