As a Senior Engineer, you serve as a specialist in the engineering team that supports the product. You help develop and gain insight in the application architecture. You can distill an abstract architecture into concrete design and influence the implementation. Use your technology acumen to apply and maintain knowledge of current and emerging technologies within specialized area(s) of the technology domain. Evaluate new technologies and participate in decision-making, accounting for several factors such as viability within Target's technical environment, maintainability, and cost of ownership. Initiate and execute research and proof-of-concept activities for new technologies. Manage total product, financials and forecasting. Lead the design, lifecycle management, and total cost of ownership of services. Lead and conduct code review, design review, testing, and debugging activities at the application level. Lead functional design and architecture discussions with understanding of process flows and system diagrams to enable design decisions. Participate in routine and non-routine construction, automation, and implementation activities, ensuring successful implementation with architectural and operational requirements and best practices met. Provide technical oversight and coach others to resolve complex and severe technical issues. Lead disaster recovery activities and contribute to disaster recovery planning. Embed data quality protocols throughout data acquisition, processing, storage, and operational use.

About you:
4 year degree or equivalent experience
5+ years of software development experience
Demonstrates strong domain-specific knowledge regarding Target's technology capabilities, and key competitors' products and differentiating features
Demonstrates strong proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript, React, and modern frontend engineering practices, with deep knowledge of browser behavior, rendering, performance, and accessibility
Architects and delivers scalable, maintainable, testable, performant, and secure frontend solutions using modern architecture patterns, shared components, and reusable design practices
Translates user and business requirements into intuitive, accessible, and user-centered experiences, rapidly validating technical and UX feasibility
Integrates frontend applications with REST services and diverse data models while applying appropriate data standards, policies, and governance practices
Drives frontend quality and reliability through automated testing, observability, performance optimization, security, and robust CI/CD practices
Partners effectively with product, design, backend engineering, and other cross-functional teams to influence technical direction, UX, accessibility, and quality standards
Breaks down complex technical problems into actionable solutions, communicates technical decisions clearly, and mentors engineers through code reviews and engineering best practices

Skills required:

Experience with Next.js or other modern React application architecture

Experience with frontend testing tools such as Jest, Cypress, and Playwright

Experience with design systems, component libraries, and frontend architecture patterns such as micro-frontends

Familiarity with accessibility standards and tooling, like WCAG, ARIA, Lighthouse, Stark, or axe

Experience working with design tools such as Figma or Adobe XD

Experience supporting production applications through monitoring, observability, and on-call practices

Nice to have:

Experience improving developer experience and automating frontend development workflows

Experience with API development and testing tools such as Postman or Insomnia

Familiarity with backend technologies such as Kotlin is a plus
