Job description

North American Roofing is a commercial roofing contractor in the United States. We are searching for a Quality Assurance Inspector within the Commercial Roofing industry.

Purpose of the role:

To assess and evaluate the quality, integrity, and compliance of commercial and industrial roofing systems.  The inspector will conduct thorough inspections, identify potential issues or deficiencies, provide detailed reports outlining their findings and provide guidance to onsite teams on corrective actions.   

Job Duties:

  • Perform comprehensive inspections of commercial roofing systems to assess their condition, quality, and compliance with relevant local and state building codes and standards.
  • Verify the compliance of roofing materials, flashing, insulation, and other components with applicable codes and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Assess and evaluate the quality, integrity, and compliance of commercial and industrial roofing systems.
  • Conduct thorough inspections, and identify potential issues or deficiencies, and provide detailed reports outlining their findings and options to fix deficiencies.
  • Conduct spot safety checks and inspections per the requirements of OSHA and local municipality requirements. The inspector has the authority to immediately shut down a roofing project, pause a roofing project or re-start a project based on the quality or safety at the site.
  • Conduct Quality Assurance training for the field crews on Quality and Safety.
  • Will work in conjunction with project management to ensure the quality of the completed roofing projects.
  • Minimize callbacks for repairs and leaks by ensuring all work is completed in a craftsman-like manner to the specifications and satisfaction of the customer.
  • Provides support to production and service teams to ensure customers’ needs and expectations are met and exceeded.
  • Traveling as required for client interaction, project oversite, or dispute resolution as required.
  • Responsible for KPIs for Quality Assurance in alignment with company goals and to ensure quality procedures are met.
  • Ensures safety, compliance, and risk management guidelines are met or exceeded.
  • Provides support on major weather event response.
  • Supporting a culture focused on honesty, transparency, quality, safety, and customer service.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial roofing industry
  • Minimum of 1 year as a roofing inspector in commercial roofing
  • Strong knowledge of TPO, PVC, EPDM, and Modified roof systems, materials, construction techniques, and industry standards.
  • Familiarity with relevant local, state, and federal building codes and regulations
  • Excellent attention to details and ability to identify roofing defects and potential issues.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Familiar in using inspections, tools, equipment, and technology, such as moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Relevant certifications or qualifications in roofing inspection or related field (e.g., Roofing Quality Assurance, Roofing Inspection Certification) are preferred.
  • OSHA 30 or higher Certification or the ability to get the OSHA 30 certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Working knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and Word (Microsoft office)

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a hybrid environment (including office, roof tops, customer spaces, and warehouses). Repetitive bending and stooping with frequent lifting up to 75 pounds is required. 
  • Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions ranging from extreme cold to extreme heat and other inclement weather circumstances.
  • Must be able to lift and setup a ladder weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to work rapidly under pressure and at heights.
  • Must be able to climb ladders on commercial roofs at a height of 20 to 40 feet.
  • Must be able to climb a ladder or stairs to get onto a rooftop to conduct an inspection.
  • Must be able to work at heights ranging from a single story to multi-story building.
  • Must be able to wear a full, body harness when necessary for fall protection.
  • Repetitive finger/hand/forearm motion necessary for completing data entry. Ability to manipulate keyboards, telephone keypads and copy equipment essential.  Talking and listening required for answering telephones and conversing personally with customers and staff. 
  • Must be able to wear a respirator when necessary due to the environment.
  • Travel will average 60%-75% by car or plane depending on customer needs and visits to sites/customers.
