Job description

Program: Business Services
Location: 400 West Ave
Position: Facility Maintenance Tech I (A-Shift)
Hours: 40/hrs. / 52 weeks
Salary Range: $38,189 -$46,134.40
Salary Grade: 11
Summary of Responsibilities:
Responsible for performing maintenance operations, minor construction and repair
activities: establishes work schedules and prioritizes activities and ensures that
work is completed as directed; performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance
activities and performs related work as required.
Qualifications/Education and Experience:
  • 2-3 years' maintenance experience required.
  • A combination of experience and training to perform minor electrical, plumbing, HVAC and renovation work.
  • Perform a variety of building and equipment maintenance duties.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to operate, receive, store, issue and maintain tools and equipment used in facilities.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to follow good health and safety principles.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Receive, store, issue, maintain power tools and equipment used in facilities.
  • Operate basic tools and equipment used in building construction and maintenance.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to maintain and monitor inventory levels, including the ability to identify, locate and procure maintenance and goods.

  • Perform mathematical calculation quickly and accurately
  • Ability to read and interpret information as necessary to perform the duties of the position and good oral and written communication skills.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid NYS driver's license, have satisfactory driving record and daily access to a vehicle, additionally employees must adhere to all NYS and NHS rules and regulations or employment will be jeopardized.

Detailed Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for having and maintaining all tools necessary to perform work. (i.e. drill, wrenches, plyers, screw drivers etc.)
  • Understand that according to the Employee Handbook Section 6.9 Personal Property Policy-
  • Employees who use their own property to assist in the performance of their job.
  • The Agency assumes no responsibility for employee's personal property and the employee will not be reimbursed for loss of or damage to the employee's personal property.
  • Maintain and perform minor repairs to electrical system and equipment; replace ballast, fixtures, repair electrical wiring and lighting circuits in connection with the repair of buildings and facilities.
  • Replace broken pipes; clean plugged drains; perform routine maintenance on other fixtures.
  • Assist in the installation of new plumbing fixtures.
  • Repair/install/re-key locks; install/repair doors and door hardware; repair/replace windows; install shelving.
  • Perform minor repairs to interior and exterior building surfaces, including ceilings and walls, flooring and roofing.
  • Prepare surfaces for painting; apply paint, varnish, shellac, enamel, or other protective finishes to various surfaces.
  • Snow removal afacs required.
  • Move furniture or other heavy objects.
  • Must be able to flex time to be available to work weekends as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.
