The role involves physical labor, working at heights, and exposure to various weather conditions. Over time, apprentices develop the skills needed to become journeyman roofers.

What does a roofer apprentice do?

As a Roofer Apprentice, your day usually starts early with a team safety meeting and reviewing the day’s project plans. You’ll assist experienced roofers by transporting materials, removing old roofing, installing new shingles or membranes, and ensuring work areas are clean and safe. Much of your learning happens on the job, as you gradually take on more complex tasks under supervision. You’ll work outdoors in various weather conditions and must be comfortable with physical activity, heights, and following strict safety protocols. This hands-on experience is key to building the skills needed for advancement in the roofing trade.
