Is robotics a dead field?

Robotics is an active and growing field with increasing applications in manufacturing, healthcare, and automation. Robotics Sales Engineers are in demand to support the integration and sales of robotic systems, and expertise in programming, sensors, and control systems remains valuable. The industry continues to evolve with advancements in AI and machine learning, ensuring ongoing opportunities for professionals in the field.

What is a Robotics Sales Engineer job?

A Robotics Sales Engineer is responsible for selling robotic systems and automation solutions to businesses. They combine technical knowledge with sales expertise to identify customer needs, propose suitable robotic solutions, and support implementation. Their role involves engaging with clients, conducting product demonstrations, and providing technical guidance. They also collaborate with engineering teams to tailor solutions and ensure customer satisfaction. This position requires both engineering expertise and strong communication skills to bridge technical and business aspects of sales.

What is a robotics sales engineer?

A robotics sales engineer is a professional who combines technical knowledge of robotics systems with sales skills to promote and sell automation solutions to clients. They often work closely with engineering teams to understand product capabilities and may require knowledge of programming, robotics hardware, and industry standards. The role typically involves customer consultations, product demonstrations, and technical support throughout the sales process.

What are the big 4 of robotics?

The big 4 of robotics typically refer to the leading industrial robot manufacturers: ABB, FANUC, KUKA, and Yaskawa. These companies dominate the market with their advanced robotic arms and automation solutions, which are widely used in manufacturing environments. As a Robotics Sales Engineer, understanding their product lines and industry standards is essential for effective sales and technical support.

Will AI replace robotics engineer?

AI is a tool that can assist robotics sales engineers by improving automation and data analysis, but it is unlikely to fully replace the need for human expertise in designing, customizing, and selling robotic solutions. Robotics sales engineers rely on technical knowledge, customer interaction, and problem-solving skills that are difficult for AI to replicate entirely. Therefore, AI may augment the role but will not eliminate the need for skilled professionals in this field.

What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of a Robotics Sales Engineer?

As a Robotics Sales Engineer, your daily tasks involve meeting with prospective and existing clients to understand their automation needs, preparing and delivering technical presentations or demonstrations, and collaborating with internal engineering teams to tailor solutions. You’ll regularly provide pre- and post-sales support, draft technical proposals and quotes, and follow up on leads to move projects forward. This role often requires travel to client sites and participation in trade shows or industry events. You'll work in close partnership with sales, engineering, and product management teams to ensure customers receive solutions that best fit their operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Robotics Sales Engineer position, and why are they important?

A Robotics Sales Engineer should possess a strong background in engineering or robotics, combined with proven sales acumen and a relevant technical degree, such as mechanical or electrical engineering. Familiarity with robotics platforms, industrial automation solutions, and CRM software—plus certifications like Certified Sales Professional (CSP) or automation technology credentials—are commonly expected. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills help differentiate top performers in this field. These competencies are critical to effectively bridging the gap between technical robotics solutions and customer business needs, ensuring successful sales and long-term client satisfaction.

Job description

We are a globally recognized leader in high-precision electro-mechanical solutions for advanced manufacturing. Since 1996, we have specialized in spindle technology, motorized systems, and automation components that power robotics, aerospace, automotive, composites, and high-tech production environments. Our reputation is built on expert spindle repair and rebuild services, engineered new products, predictive health monitoring systems, and a relentless focus on minimizing customer downtime while maximizing productivity, precision, and reliability. With decades of hands-on technical expertise and a deeply customer-first culture, we deliver true single-source solutions - from emergency repairs and custom-engineered spindles to complete automation support systems - that keep the world's most demanding manufacturers operating at peak performance. Our commitment to quality and innovation has earned the trust of industry leaders across North America and beyond.

We are seeking a dynamic and technically strong Sales Engineer to join our team as a trusted technical advisor to manufacturers using robotics and highly automated machinery. This hybrid role combines deep engineering knowledge with consultative sales expertise. You will serve as the primary point of contact for customers, helping them solve complex challenges related to high-speed spindles, motorized systems, automation components, and related technologies. Working at the intersection of advanced engineering and strategic sales, you will engage with engineers, production managers, and executives to recommend optimal solutions that drive real operational improvements. If you thrive on technical problem-solving, enjoy building long-term relationships, and get satisfaction from turning complex engineering conversations into successful partnerships, this is an outstanding opportunity to accelerate your career with a company that truly values technical competence and customer success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the primary technical liaison for customers in robotics, automation, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing, providing expert guidance on spindle applications, motorized systems, and automation solutions.
  • Resolve complex commercial and technical issues, including application engineering, troubleshooting, and recommending optimal configurations to improve precision, reliability, and performance.
  • Lead consultative sales processes: conduct needs assessments, deliver technical presentations and product demonstrations (both in-person and virtual), and develop value-based proposals that clearly articulate ROI.
  • Build and expand customer relationships through strategic account management, cross-selling of our full portfolio (new spindles, repairs, monitoring systems, accessories, and engineered solutions), and securing long-term purchasing agreements.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities by understanding customer production challenges, leveraging our technical advantages, and overcoming objections with data-driven solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with internal engineering, product management, applications, and marketing teams to deliver comprehensive solutions and ensure customer success.
  • Participate in trade shows, customer site visits, and industry events (significant travel required, approximately 30-50%).
  • Meet and exceed sales targets while maintaining a strong "hunter" mentality balanced with a genuine desire to help customers solve problems.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, Robotics, Automation, or a related technical field (strongly preferred).
  • Proven track record of success in technical B2B sales, ideally within machinery, automation, robotics, CNC equipment, electro-mechanical components, or capital equipment.
  • Strong electro-mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand and clearly communicate technical specifications, drawings, and performance data to both technical and executive audiences.
  • Excellent consultative selling, negotiation, and presentation skills with a customer-centric approach.
  • Self-motivated with a results-driven mindset and the ability to work independently in a hybrid environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically (and occasionally internationally) to customer sites and industry events.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Experience with spindles, high-speed motors, CNC routers, or robotic automation is a significant plus.
Compensation & Benefits

We offer a competitive base salary of $100,000 - $140,000 (depending on experience and overall fit), plus unlimited quarterly commission potential. Top performers in this role have significant earning upside with no commission caps.

Additional benefits include:

  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage
  • Safe Harbor 401(k) plan with company matching
  • Tuition reimbursement and ongoing professional development
  • Quarterly team celebrations and recognition
  • Comprehensive product and technical training on our 30-year portfolio
  • Hybrid work flexibility is offered after an initial onboarding and training period (approximately 6 months). During this time, you will be expected to be primarily on-site to fully learn the product line, engineering applications, and customer solutions. Once ramped, the role transitions into a hybrid model with office presence expected in Bessemer City, NC when not traveling.
  • Clear career advancement opportunities in a growing, stable organization
