The Robotics System Engineer Intern/Co-op plays a crucial role in the Amazon Robotics deployment team. They work alongside a team who oversees the installation, troubleshooting, integration, and commissioning of Amazon Robotics equipment in new and existing fulfillment centers (FCs). This field engineering based position demands strong technical skills for deploying robotic equipment, including working with mechanical systems, electrical, configuring networking, and coordinating software systems. While training is provided on the specific systems that the engineers will be working on, a candidate should have foundational knowledge of robotics, networked mechanical systems, and electrical systems.
The Robotics System Engineer Intern/Co-op will work with a team of 1-5 engineers and collaborate with an on-site project manager to provide technical oversight on the installation of both third party and Amazon designed robotics equipment. These deployments require extensive collaboration with various stakeholders, including third-party installers, contracted engineers, construction, hardware, software, IT, and other partner teams. Strong communication skills are essential for interacting with both internal and external partners and customers. As an Amazonian the candidate must demonstrate independent initiative to identify and solve problems in real time during deployments. They will also drive continuous improvement initiatives to avoid recurrences.
The Robotics System Engineer Intern/Co-op will be deploying the robotic systems in various phases of a product life cycle. When supporting new products, the candidate is required to lead the development of process documentation and modifying the existing processes. Strong technical understanding, love for field work, and a keen interest in diving deep into the understanding of Amazon's robotics systems are key attributes for this role. As an Amazonian, the ability to recognize process gaps and take ownership in developing solutions are important. Project duration can range from a few days to several months and include travel across the US. International work is available for candidates interested in pursuing. This position requires 75% travel. Valid US drivers' license required.
Key job responsibilities
System Engineer Intern/Co-op Critical Skills:
* Ability to read and develop technical documentation and process instructions.
* Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* Willingness to work primarily in a construction or warehouse environment in a field-based role.
Must be proficient in standard office software tools and processes.
* Strong foundational knowledge in robotics or complex electro-mechanical and networked engineering, including knowledge of robotic systems, components, and software.
* Strong bias towards taking independent initiative while reporting these efforts up to their leadership.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to clearly explain technical concepts to customers and internal stakeholders
* Ability to work with cross-functional teams.
* Ability to capture lessons learned and drive technical continuous improvement projects.
* Ability to function independently and manage a team of 1-5 engineers and related trades during deployments.
* Ability to coordinate with multiple internal and external stakeholders working on the project to resolve cross-functional deployment issues.
* Ability to oversee and resolve escalations during robotics deployment including quality hand-off, live order testing, site acceptance testing, operational readiness testing, monitoring robotics system performance, etc.
* Responsible for delivering projects by owning key KPIs around on-time delivery, cost, quality, safety, and sustainability.
* Understanding of data collection, reporting processes, and ability to make data-driven decisions.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Are 18 years of age or older
Currently working towards Bachelor's or Masters Degree with a graduation date between December 2026 and August 2027
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's, Masters, or PhD program that is physically located in the United States and must have at least one semester/term/quarter of school left to complete after the end of the co-op
Are enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or related STEM field
Must be eligible and available for a full-time (40h / week) co-op during the 6-month co-op duration
Understanding of data collection, reporting processes, and ability to make data-driven decisions
Ability to read technical drawings and/or reading CAD models to resolve on-site clash issues using 3D clash detection reports
Ability to troubleshoot robotics systems to resolve escalations including quality hand-off, live order testing, site acceptance testing, operational readiness testing, monitoring robotics system performance, etc
Ability to read and develop technical documentation and process instructions
Willingness to work primarily in a construction or warehouse environment in a field-based role and travel extensively across the US and potentially internationally
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1-2 years of experience working in a field engineering, construction, manufacturing, or warehouse environment
Proven experience working on hardware integration or complex mechanical-electrical or networked industrial equipment
Ability to demonstrate past use of data to drive decision making processes
Practical understanding of network fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, switching, HTTP)
Ability to take independent initiative when presented with a business need
Knowledge of robot specific experience (Fanuc, ABB), Allen Bradley PLC experience, C++, Python, Java, etc

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $35.63/hr in our lowest geographic market up to $78.37/hr in our highest geographic market.
