Job description

About DroneDeploy
DroneDeploy powers field teams with robotics and AI. As the only reality capture platform that combines robotic automation, AI agents, and a truly unified system, DroneDeploy allows critical industries to operate with speed and confidence.

From construction and energy to agriculture, the world's largest companies use DroneDeploy to simplify field operations, improve safety, and make smarter decisions, faster. By combining aerial drones, 360 and fixed cameras, ground robots and proprietary AI, we're bringing the power of automation and visual intelligence to all stakeholders, from the field to the boardroom.

At DroneDeploy, we thrive in a mostly remote-first culture rooted in innovation and impact. We've been recognized as a Best Place to Work in the SF Bay Area and named one of America's Great Places to Work-but what truly sets us apart is the experience you gain: solving real-world challenges with cutting-edge technology, surrounded by teammates who are as passionate as they are supportive. Our team is bold, mission-driven, and building something that matters. We foster a culture where a variety of perspectives drive smart decisions, and where growth-both personal and professional-is part of the journey. Whether it's flexible schedules, family-friendly benefits, or our strong track record of internal promotions, we invest in people as much as we do in product. If you're looking to be part of something ambitious, authentic, and transformative, you'll find your place at DroneDeploy.

Role Overview

DroneDeploy is looking for a Senior Solution Architect to serve as a trusted technical advisor across the customer lifecycle, helping customers design, validate, and deploy solutions that solve real-world operational challenges.

This role reports to the Senior Director of Solutions Engineering and sits within a team of technical specialists who support both pre-sales and post-sales work across complex, high-value customer programs.

You will partner closely with Sales, Customer Success, Product, Engineering, and other cross-functional teams to translate business goals, field constraints, and technical requirements into scalable solutions on the DroneDeploy platform. The role spans discovery, solution architecture, demonstrations, proof of concepts, deployments, integrations, training, and ongoing optimization.

This role is especially well suited to someone who combines consultative customer skills with strong technical depth in robotics, physical AI, AI agents, and hardware/software integrations. You may help customers operationalize emerging workflows involving ground robotics, docked drones, connectivity, and industrial reality capture, while also bringing field insights back into product and process improvements.

Work Environment
  • Hybrid: 2 days in office in Oakland or Houston, with regular collaboration across US-based and global cross-functional partners; strong overlap with US business hours is expected to support customer and internal engagements.

  • Business Travel: Domestic travel with potential international travel is expected for customer onsite discovery, deployments, technical validations, trainings, conferences, and internal planning sessions; estimate up to 50% depending on customer demand and major initiatives.

  • AI tooling: This role is expected to regularly use AI tooling to improve research, solution design, technical content creation, troubleshooting, workflow documentation, and internal enablement while maintaining sound technical practices and customer trust.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with prospective and existing customers to understand business goals, operational workflows, technical constraints, and success criteria.

  • Architect scalable solutions that align customer needs with DroneDeploy product capabilities, implementation requirements, and long-term value.

  • Lead technical discovery, solution scoping, demonstrations, proof of concepts, and validation activities for complex customer opportunities.

  • Support deployments and implementations, including configuration, integration planning, training, troubleshooting, and optimization.

  • Act as the primary technical advisor in customer-facing engagements, clearly communicating risks, tradeoffs, recommendations, and next steps to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Guide customers through hardware, connectivity, and interoperability considerations across robotics, docks, sensors, infrastructure, and software systems.

  • Partner with Product and Engineering to define, test, and improve emerging workflows across robotics, walkthrough AI, automation, and related reality capture use cases.

  • Bring structured field feedback into roadmap and product improvement discussions to improve adoption, reliability, and solution quality.

  • Develop playbooks, documentation, demos, and enablement assets that improve repeatability and scale across the Solutions team.

  • Support technical responses for proposals, RFPs, business cases, and executive-facing customer presentations.

  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and reduce operational friction through tooling, automation, and process improvements.

  • Mentor internal teammates on solution design, deployment practices, and field learnings.

Requirements
  • 8+ years experience in solutions architecture, solutions engineering, systems engineering, technical consulting, or a similar customer-facing technical role

  • Background in ground robotics, quadrupeds, mobile robots, or embodied AI systems.

  • Proficiency with Python, ROS, or similar tools used in robotics and automation integration.

  • Knowledge of connectivity, infrastructure, networking, power systems, hardware/software interoperability, or operational field workflows.

  • Demonstrated ability working with complex software platforms and integrated hardware/software systems in real-world environments.

  • Proven history of leading technical discovery, solution validation, proof of concepts, and customer deployments across pre-sales and post-sales motions.

  • Strong project and program coordination skills, including managing multiple workstreams, dependencies, risks, and timelines.

  • Success working cross-functionally with go-to-market teams, Product, Engineering, and Customer Success.

  • Demonstrated ability in technical deployments, implementations, or field-based solution delivery.

  • Background in construction, industrial operations, or large-scale infrastructure projects is a plus.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Why Join DroneDeploy?
  • Impact: Help shape how robotics, AI, and reality capture are deployed in the physical world across construction, industrial, and emerging automation use cases.
  • Scope: Own technically complex customer programs from discovery through deployment and long-term adoption, with visibility across the full customer lifecycle.

  • Innovation: Work at the intersection of software, hardware, connectivity, automation, and AI as DroneDeploy expands embodied AI and advanced field workflows.

  • Influence: Partner closely with Sales, Customer Success, Product, and Engineering, and turn field insight into roadmap improvements, product feedback, and scalable best practices.

  • Growth: Build expertise across emerging products and mentor others on solution design, deployment strategy, and technical enablement, with upward and lateral growth.
