Position Summary
The Robotics Engineer position combines robotics, perception, software, mechatronics, and controls work. As part of our team, you will design, develop, integrate, and test automated robotic systems for use in diverse production environments. This position plays an integral role in the design and development of our next-generation robotics and 3D scanning systems. You will turn ideas into reality by way of your designs which meet customer needs. The successful candidate will support design and validation of robotic systems using digital twin and simulation based on your expertise in robot kinematics, motion planning, and simulation concepts. Daily collaboration with software engineers, metrology/vision engineers, customers, and vendors is essential to this role.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Design and build cells custom robotic cells for customer-specific applications in collaboration with the engineering team
  • Design, build, and test motion control systems including servo motors, stepper motors, sensors, switches, and power distribution
  • Create prototype software tools for integration and communication testing
  • Design and build end-of-arm tooling (EOAT) and end-effector components using CAD software, 3D modeling, and 3D printing as appropriate
  • Install and configure robotic system software, then validate functionality before client implementation
  • Create robotic programs utilizing a teach pendant, offline programming software tools, hand-guided motion planning, and advanced motion planning
  • Set up safety equipment and confirm sensor operation
  • Troubleshoot, test, and maintain robotic systems during development, deployment, and post-installation support
  • Provide timely, professional remote support to clients for technical questions and issue resolution
  • Conduct research to find the best components to use in the development of integrated automation systems
  • Advise management regarding product performance and suggestions for product improvements
  • Collaborate with engineers, customers vendors, and internal stakeholders on design concepts, troubleshooting, innovation, and implementation planning.
  • Use a variety of tools, including precision instruments to measure parts, operating tools during the assembly of robotic cells

Required Qualifications
  • Industrial Automation and Systems Integration experience, including development, implementation, and evaluation
  • Professional experience with 3D scanners
  • Prior work experience in motion control systems including servo motors, stepper motors, sensors, switches, power distribution, and electrical
  • Experience designing and building complex systems, such as industrial automated systems
  • Proven ability to design systems utilizing current technology including CAD and 3D Modeling in programs such as SolidWorks
  • Testing, troubleshooting, and validation experience at company work site, remotely, or at client work site
  • Professional experience or working knowledge in robotic motion planning, tool path generation, and inverse kinematics
  • Demonstrable mechanical and electrical aptitude, including proficiency with hand tools, measuring tools, and precision instruments
  • Familiar with Localization as it relates to Robotics
  • Knowledge of algorithmic concepts such as scene graphs, spatial data structures, and physics simulations
  • Accustomed to creating and documenting tests and experience working in a test-driven environment
  • Creative thinking which allows for designs of new, innovative products
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Proven ability to succeed working independently as well as with teams, regardless of location and whether remote or in-person
  • Time management skills, including a history of prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines
  • Effective listening, written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical matters with non-technical stakeholders
  • General knowledge of Windows OS and Linux
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, or related Engineering field
  • A valid and current driver's license is required
