Job description

Design Engineer

Position Summary

The Weld Engineer is responsible for weld process development, fixture design, and weld process performance at Triton Metal Products. This role supports production by improving weld quality, consistency, and efficiency across manual and robotic welding operations. The Weld Engineer drives process standardization, continuous improvement, and cost reduction while supporting new product launches and ongoing production needs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize weld processes (WPS) for new and existing products
  • Design and improve weld fixtures to ensure repeatability, efficiency, and quality
  • Program and optimize robotic welding systems to improve throughput and reduce variability
  • Establish and maintain weld process standards, best practices, and setup guidelines
  • Analyze weld performance data and drive improvements in quality, cycle time, and cost
  • Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for weld-related issues
  • Support new product launches through APQP, including weld process readiness and validation
  • Identify gaps in weld processes, tooling, and training, and implement improvements
  • Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to ensure alignment and execution
  • Support weld qualification activities (WPS/PQR) in coordination with CWI
  • Mentor weld technicians and support development of technical capabilities across the team


Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of welding processes (GMAW, FCAW, TIG, robotic welding)
  • Experience with weld fixture design and manufacturing processes
  • Experience with robotic welding programming and optimization preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach
  • Experience with continuous improvement tools (lean, six sigma, FMEA) preferred
  • Proficient in CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)
  • CWI certification preferred or ability to obtain


Education & Experience

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Welding Technology, or related field OR equivalent hands-on experience
  • 3–5+ years of experience in welding, fabrication, or manufacturing engineering
