What is a robot creative?

A Robot Creative is a professional who specializes in designing, developing, and implementing creative solutions that involve robotics and automation. This role often blends expertise in robotics engineering, user experience, and creative problem-solving to build interactive robots or robotic experiences for entertainment, marketing, education, or art installations. Robot Creatives collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to conceptualize ideas, prototype robotic systems, and bring innovative projects to life. Their work can range from building robots for theatrical performances to developing interactive installations for museums or public spaces.

How does a robot creative typically collaborate with engineers and designers during a project?

Robot Creatives often work closely with both engineers and designers to bring imaginative concepts to life. They contribute ideas during brainstorming sessions, help define the visual and interactive aspects of robots, and ensure that creative elements align with technical constraints. Regular meetings and prototypes are common, allowing for ongoing feedback and adjustments. This collaborative environment helps ensure that the final product is both innovative and functional.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a creative director in robotics, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Creative Director in robotics, you need a strong background in design, storytelling, and technology integration, often supported by a degree in design, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with prototyping tools, CAD software, and project management systems is typically required. Exceptional communication, leadership, and innovative thinking are crucial soft skills for inspiring teams and driving creative strategies. These skills ensure the development of engaging, functional robotic products and effective collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

What is the difference between Robot Creative vs Graphic Designer?

AspectRobot CreativeGraphic Designer
Required CredentialsTypically a background in digital media, design software proficiency, and sometimes coding skillsUsually a degree or diploma in graphic design, visual arts, or related fields
Work EnvironmentCreative agencies, digital media firms, or in-house marketing teamsDesign studios, advertising agencies, or corporate marketing departments
Industry UsageUsed in digital content creation, branding, and multimedia projectsFocuses on visual communication, branding, and print or digital media

Robot Creative and Graphic Designer both operate within the creative industry, but Robot Creative often emphasizes digital and multimedia content with a technical edge, while Graphic Designers focus on visual communication and print or digital design. Both roles require creative skills, but their tools, environments, and specific tasks differ.

Job description

Position Summary:
We're looking for a senior, hands-on engineer to build and scale the simulation platform for our general-purpose robots. You'll own core simulator and tooling components that let us evaluate and improve policies faster than the real world allows. You'll work closely with autonomy and infrastructure teams to make simulation fast, reliable, and easy to use.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Simulation Development: Build and maintain a high-fidelity simulation platform for prototyping, testing, and validating robot behaviors.
  • Performance & Scalability: Establish benchmarks and optimize rendering, physics, and pipeline execution to accelerate iteration and increase throughput.
  • Evaluation Infrastructure: Build scalable evaluation infrastructure that produces reliable training signals and enables iteration beyond the speed of real-world testing.
  • Coverage & Realism: Define, measure, and reduce the sim-to-real gap while expanding simulation coverage and realism.
  • Collaboration & Mentorship: Partner with autonomy and infrastructure teams and mentor simulation engineers.

Required Qualifications:
  • Simulation Expertise: Strong background in physics, rendering, or robotics simulation, with hands-on experience developing on platforms such as Isaac Sim, MuJoCo, or Drake.
  • Software & Systems Engineering: Strong Python and/or C++ skills, with experience building and maintaining production-grade, high-performance parallel systems.
  • Performance & Evaluation Rigor: Ability to profile complex systems, diagnose bottlenecks, and take a measurement-driven approach to performance, reliability, evaluation, and the sim-to-real gap.
  • Technical Leadership: Sound engineering judgment, clear communication, and a track record of leading workstreams, mentoring engineers, and raising technical standards.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience running containerized simulation workloads in the cloud with scalable, parallel job execution.
  • Experience generating synthetic simulation assets, environments, and evaluation scenarios through procedural generation, generative modeling, or agentic authoring.
  • Familiarity with GPU-accelerated simulation or rendering.
