Job description

Position Summary:

The Paving Laborer supports asphalt and roadway paving operations by performing a variety of manual and equipment-assisted tasks. This role plays a critical part in preparing surfaces, placing asphalt, and ensuring high-quality, safety, and efficient paving on roadways and related infrastructure projects.

Essential Functions/Position Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to and promote all Company Safety Policies and the Company Code of Conduct.
  • Assist with site preparation, layout, and paving operations for roadway and patch paving projects.
  • Clean, grease, and perform basic maintenance on tools, equipment, and work areas.
  • Lift, carry, and position paving materials, tools, and supplies as needed throughout the workday.
  • Spread, rake, and level asphalt and aggregate materials by hand or with tools to achieve proper grade and finish.
  • Mix, pour, and place asphalt and concrete using hand tools and equipment.
  • Support paving operations by removing and setting forms, compacting materials, and assisting with patch work.
  • Operate hand tools and small equipment including rakes, lutes, jackhammers, tampers, and saws.
  • Assist with rolling and compaction operations to meet project specifications and surface quality standards.
  • Work collaboratively with crew members, equipment operators, and supervisors to maintain productivity and site safety.
  • Maintain a professional, respectful, and cooperative attitude always.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support project needs.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • N/A

Hiring Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent relevant construction experience.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of hands-on asphalt paving experience preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Proficient using paving hand tools including lutes, rakes, shovels, and tampers for finish work, adjustments, and surface quality control.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a road roller for both full roadway paving and patch paving to achieve proper compaction and mat density.
  • Familiarity with paving equipment operations, including working around pavers, rollers, and support equipment; paver operation experience is a plus but not required.
  • Able to safely and efficiently perform both manual labor and equipment-supported tasks on active construction sites.
  • Obtain and maintain all required Operator Qualifications (OQs) to perform work as required.
  • OSHA-10 Certification (company-supported if not current), DOT Medical Card (assistance provided), valid U.S. driver's license and ability to travel to job sites, successful drug screen, background check, and motor vehicle record (MVR) review per federal/state requirements.
